7M-GE Cam Seals Leaky Sat, 26 October 2002 21:45 Go to next message
Hey peoples!
I have some aggravating leaking cam seals seeping oil down the front of the ol' plodder. It's coming out in 4 weeks...however I'd like to not worry about the smell...Is there an easy way to fix this? My meachanic said they just needed to "push them back" but I can't see how? help please...I'm not willing to pull the timing belt and everything off...Can I do it without pulling the belt off?? I dont see how but It's worth a try asking...
Thanks in advance.

from what I can see ( my seals are leaky too and I will be replacing them soon) you will not only have to pull off the cam belt but also the thermostat housing, to do it you may as well pull out the whole radiator as well to give youreself some room, Id recomend doing the front main as well at the same time, its a bit or re-assurance that you wont have any leaks for a longer time Smile . Im not sure why your mechanic would recommend to just push them back in as they would most likely just pop back out and continue to leak, better to replace them all-together

yeah i agree, also they dont need to "pop out" to leak, they can be bedded in like normal and still leak, due to just being old and hard.
