I'm guessing you don't have a multimeter/wouldn't know what to check to get continuity through wires etc?
As for the leak, depends where it is... If you are handy with tools, you'll be able to fix it yourself... If not... Send it to the mechanics to have it fixed...
The leak though, may not actually be a leak... It could be that you have boiled your fluid and it has filled the over flow tank, and this itself has overflowed...
Check your coolant level in the radiator it self to make sure you haven't lost too much...

I do have access to a multimeter but not today..
i'll have to get my uncle to help me to use it.
on this occasion the car overboiled the coolant 2 days ago
got the car home then topped up the fluids just yesterday,
since then it has not overboiled.

Well when you get your uncle to help you...
You want to check the continuity from where the relay plugs in, down to the fan.
You also want to check that there is some form of continuity from the Positive side to the neg side of the fan...
If all else fails, and it seems like the relay is the problem... Wire the fan on permanently:D

is the leak from the water side, if so u may want to check that your water pump isnt stuffed, that could also relate to the fans not operating properly.
good luck

| Thats a pretty good idea too...
Forgot about that...
As for wiring it on permanently...
Where the relay switch part is, take the wire going to the fan, and wire it to the other side of the relay...
Think this is the switch _____/ ___ when its open... When it gets energised through the coil, it goes __________
Now what you do, is bypass that "switch" so you end up with ___ all the time...
If I had the wiring diagram or could be bothered to open paint I could show you better...

ok usually on late model cars no they are designed that if you disconnect relays or fuses etc the computer overrides and keeps the fans on permently and thats why when u removed it it turned on..try putting a new thermofan switch in or just disconnect the plug off the thermofan switch (usually located on the thermostat housing or close by) and then see if the fan comes on...if it does then u can leave it like that or just replace the switch.

maybe if u have a block somewhere in the cooling system or thermostat ceased close u get cold spots in the cooling system, and if the thermosensor is cold it wont activate the fan
i'd replace the thermostat first thing as its cheap and usually solve alot of the heating problem, then go from there

today i wired the fan so it would stay permanantly on.
when i went into the garage this morning there was a little puddle of coolant/water under the car
so i topped up all the fluids..
took it out for a drive (hoping the leak may disappear which wasnt to be..)
as expected the car did not overheat..
but wat happend this time was when i got the car back home the leak had gotten worse, it was no longer a slow leak but it was more like pissing out..
again i couldnt pinpoint the source of the leak coz alot of crap is in the way.. under cover etc,, but from what i could tell it was coming from somewhere just under the radiator.
i really cant afford to spend alot of money at a mechanic at this time, so i am hoping someone is able give me an estimate how much this might cost me to get repaired.
thanks.

ive just replaced the two top major hoses from the radiator to motor , and one of the snaller ones under the housing bolted to the motor ..
Top two hoses had to be sourced genuine - the other was a cut down one off a ford falcon
the one under the housing had split , causing coolant to weep down on top of my gearbox - then off forming an annoying green puddle on the ground ..
take off your afm /air filter + look down onto your gearbox - if you see coolant there - likelyhood is the same one has gone
Price varies on who you soeak to - my hoses for 3 cost under 100 with new clamps
