Fuel tank flush.. Fri, 04 February 2005 05:51 Go to next message
So what is involved in flushing out a fuel tank? For cleaning purposes. I recently replaced my pre-pump filter (i have an external pump setup). And found dust traces of metal.. So I figuire this 25+ year old tank must have built up some crud in it over its life.

Is it just a case of taking it off, hosing the interior out, drying it out then throwing it back in?

tips? any cleaning agents?

take the tank out....let it dry, hose the sucker out with water/pressure cleanerthen throw like a litre of meth spirits in there and rinse it out with it.....then let it dry thoughly before putting back in and filling up(at least a day)

at work we usually use a high pressure hot gerni. we clean them as much as possibly then just stick about 500ml of liquid degresser in them and fill it up..leave ot for about 30 minutes then flush it out until its clean. remember when its full to then just tip the water out then fill it again. then tip it out anf ill it again and keep going for a few ghoes so its clean. then just allow to dry in the sun. remember no flames. even if you have cleaned it there is still the risk of it exploding ( trust me i blew up a tank at work that someone spent 3 hours cleaning. It still had fumes and went BANG)
