T-18 T50 -> AE71 Fri, 04 February 2005 21:09 Go to next message
Hey

I'm putting a full T-18 driveline into a AE71 and i was wondering if the AE71 X-member will be fine for the T-18 T50 (i assume so) as well as whether or not i can use the whole T-18 Tail shaft

I think it should be fine if i use the T-18 Tail shaft with the AE71 GB X-member, but i could be wrong (up until i checked 10 mins ago i thought the T-18 GB xmember was a straight bolt in too Smile )

Also, the motor will be T series. Ive seen karl skew's article where he used A series mounts and a 10mm spacer on one side of the engine to put a 3TC into his AA60 so i was thinking something similar, otherwise i might have to try my hands at fabricating engine mounts. I don't want to swap cross members as i want to keep it intact for a possible later more 4a like conversion Very Happy

why not just weld the rack mounts from your a xmember onto your t series x member and when you get a 4AGZZTTE just grab another a series crossmember from wreckers?
this is my plan if i got R & P in the T-18

The gearbox crossmembers from my T18 & AE71 were identical. Are yours different? Confused

Hmm i woulda thought they would be the same too

unless i grabed the wrong cross member Embarassed im pretty sure its a T-18 one, oh well ill just have to get under the T-18 that works and measure the difference, fuck knows where i got the cross member i tried then Wink

(the crossmember was from the updated shape T-18 but i dont think that would be any different)

just went and checked again, there is 1" difference between the bolt holes

i dont have a AE71 crossmember to compare to though

Ill see how i go once i start the conversion, if they are DEFINATLY different and im not fucking anything up, ill just get an AE71 one, should do the job Smile

when i did this swap there was a couple of things to note:

If using the T18 t50 box with the AE71 bellhousing, you have to be VERY careful with the thrust washers etc and make sure they are the right height. It was a bit of a pissfart around, but there was some combination of the washers that worked when i measured them up.

The AE71 gbox xmember is different. Use it.

Use the T18 complete tailshaft if you are using the T18 gbox and diff.

Everything else bolts up.
