Hiace/Hilux rear wheel bearings? (and seals) Sat, 05 February 2005 05:23 Go to next message
Just had a Hiace diff cut and shut as well as the axles resplined and the stud pattern changed and a few other whoseywhatsists done as well.

Noticed that the wheel bearing on one side is pretty much cactus and that a seal is missing (the one that sits over the flange and buts up to the wheel bearing when you put the axles and brakes back into the diff housing.

Thing is, I have no idea what year the hiace diff is out of, all I know is that it was a Diesel. Is there a wheel bearing kit to suit all Hiace diffs or do they change from model to model, and if they do, how do I tell what diff I do have (any external markings?)

cheers

nah, no idea on what year. (I bought the diff after it had been shortened) I do know that it came out of a 6 seater or something like that though. Im guessing late 80/early 90?

Rolin Bearings (formerly of Heidelberg West, now Campbellfield) sell bearing/seal kits for around $40 per side.

ok, found it was actually an O ring missing on my diff and surprise surprise the O ring doesnt come in the bearing kit.
The bearing kit I need is the one that suits 2WD Hilux and Hiaces from 1985 onwards.
CVC in Thomastown wanted 77 a side... I'll wait until the diff is in the car and see if I need them changed or not.
