2tg cams Sun, 06 February 2005 08:48 Go to next message
hey just wondering if anyone could help. I have a 2tg in my TA22 with twin 40mm dellortos, elect fuel pump and dizzy with extractors and exhaust. This one has compression of 8.4 or 8.6 to one cause its a 260 head. I was told by sean maloney twim cam performance that if i put a set of bigger cams in it it will end up running worse if i dont have high comp such as 10 to1. is this true ( has anyone tried it)??? any help would be appreciated cheers

What Sean says is mostly correct.

Remember this - when running larger cams with larger overlaps you get reduced cylinder pressure especially noticeable at lower revs. You cannot make cylinder pressure while the intake valve is still open (no matter how you try) so the idea is to bump the C/R with the bigger cams to make the engine more efficient at high rpm.

General Rule -
Small cams = lower compression ratios
Big cams = high compression ratios

Edit - this is very subjective and you should give your engine specs to the cam grinder and go with his/her advice.
