AE86/4AGE Questions

Hi,
Im picking up my AE86 this weekend and it has a 4AGE engine in and just wanting to know a few things.
1) You get 2 choices for a oil filter, Z386 (small) or Z158 (large). I got told that smaller is better when it comes to oil filters. Is that true?
2) Is there headlight protectors and dashmats availiable for it?
3) The guy is using Castrol GTX3 (15W/40) but I am thinking about using Penrite HPR 10 (10W/50) Would that been fine?
4) Are the timing belts the same beetween every 4AGE 16V? Part No. T176?
5) Is the rear seat the same as a Corolla?
Cheers

i have heard that the smaller ones are better aswell but i cant confirm this.
What oil u run in the engine will depend on the condition of the rings. Put the penrite in but if it uses too much oil the change it for something thicker i used to run 10w30 in my 180000km 4age and it used to chew through the oil so i put castrol magnatec 10w40 i thinks and it hardly used any after that.
I have had some trouble with timing belts fitting in the past so i wouldnt be suprised if there are different sizes. Either that or the repco has no idea probably a combanation of the 2.

I got told by other driver's that Castrol is really only good for new cars. Older cars chew through the oil.

Most of the time people don't know what mechanics/etc mean by "old". Note this, a well-maintained 101,000km Sprinter (or at least, 4AGE engine 101k's old ) is newer than the average 250,000km four-year-old Falcon.
If your engine's somewhat low kays, go ahead, try it, for sure. If not I'd be a touch reluctant but as long as you're willing, try.

worked well for my car.
I lost a bit of top end with the castrol but was more inclined to use thicker oil than having to replace the uber xpensive mobil one all the time. I used to punnish the crap out of my 86kw and oil levels stayed constant.

Truenosedan has (had?) dashmats for sprinters. I got one recently, fits great. Give him a bell on the PM.

Use a genuine filter. If the motor is in good nick use a synthetic oil marketed for "older" modern engines (if that makes sense) Have used Mobil 1 for years uneventfully, but change it regularly whatever you use.

the ae82 has the same glass lenses on the headlights as the ae86 so ae82 should fit if you can get them.
