icon4.gif  Help: decent thermofan brands? Mon, 07 February 2005 12:09 Go to next message
Hi guys, after finding my GT4 fans dont fit, im in the hunt for a new one.

It needs to be 14" and flow a shiteload of air - it has to pull through a 70mm thick radiator.

Ive seen a few brands with decent looking specs:

Tripac
Davies Craig (had poor cfm and life expectency tho Confused ?)
Flex-a-lite
CI Electric
Proflow

now the one with the most impressive specs was the Pro-Flow, but i cant seem to find the dimensions of it anywhere on the web. It is for sale on Ebay. I'm wondering - is this a shit brand or are they good?

Ive spent a lot on this motor and i cant afford to let it boil -
hence im looking at a NEW fan which needs to flow highly.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Blake

Dickload of air yes, but not terribly compact.

Bah, its between 80 and 85mm depth you need.

With a 70mm radiator, you should only need 2 5mm fans.

ensure that you've got a suitable fan shroud. sounds like a waste and can be ugly but makes incredible difference. it makes sure that air is pushed only through radiator not everywhere else.

one constructive reply, thanks oldcorollas.

SPAL look pretty good also. fucken expensive tho!

AU thermos are 1: too deep for my room available, 2: shit in comparison to a single 16" volvo fan with a bit smaller shroud.

Oh yeah, they're crap Rolling Eyes Is your radiator narrower (width wise, not thickness obviously) than an MA61 one?

regarding shrouds- the advice i got from western suburbs radiators (who did my 3-core in the RA40 was to ensure the shroud at hte rear covered the back of the radiator so the fan(s) only pulled air thru the core - not from open surrounds.

wilbo and norbie can attest to the abilty of my radiator to take in a lot of heat (.. say from a red hot turbo and manifold) and pull it out the core in a gale of hot, acrid air Wink. The shroud is only 30mm or so off the back of the rad but completely encloses it and has hi-temp foam/rubber to improve sealing.

fwiw: some newish merc's have two fans infront of the rad - the shroud i saw was integral to the grill (which was attached to the bonnet) - they looked very thin.

Its actually wider than an ma61 radiator. And yes they are shit in comparison to the volvo one. I'm yet to get its dimensions, but im told it is too deep for what i need. Sad

I'd be mounting the fans flush to the radiator, as i cannot make a shroud, my choice of radiators has ment i need to make them flush and least deep possible

And you're basing this off hard facts or hearsay? Rolling Eyes

Ok, so if your radiator is WIDER than an MA61 one, and the AU thermos fit fine on an MA61 radiator, what credibility does that give any of your info?

I already said the AU fans are too deep didnt i? And the volvo one ive seen (16" it is) and experienced testing from memory is as deep or deeper, but it sucks a shitload more air.
The example it was used on was a hot 351 in an XY falcon ute. The AU fans werent keeping it cool enough in the 40"+ heat, and then they were exchanged for this volvo one, they never had another problem. Both were adapted properly to fit nicely on the radiator

You said it was too wide for your radiator, hence my question. Neutral

Anyways, I'm over it, it's like http://users.bigpond.net.au/justcallmefrank/mur.gif
