Stud patterns explained?

I'm a newbie when it comes to, well, most things cars. The latest thing I'm curious about is stud patterns.
I have an MX62 Cressida and an AW11 MR2. I have a set of 16" mags that came off the AW11 (4x100?) which I'd like to go on my MX62 (4x114.3?). They're both 4-studs, so is this do-able? Is there anything I can do to make it more do-able?
Thanks for all your help.

The 4x114.3 means that there are 4 studs that are spaced evenly around a circle of 114.3mm diameter. There is no way legally you can make the wheels go on the Cressida.
About the only logical solution is to have a hub adapter which bolts to the original studs and has a 4x114.3 pattern on the front of it, but this makes your wheels stick out further, posing its own problems.
