reed switch fix for 20V in CS Limited

I need to do the reed switch fix for my AE92 with Silvertop. I have searched the Jaycar and Dicksmith websites for reed switches and they only appear to have reed switches for house alarms which seem to be mentioning voltages of 100V and 200V. I'm guessing this is NOT the correct type of reed switch? Where do I get the correct reed switch? (part number perhaps?)
I was wondering if the (sorry if this is stupid) magnetic wheel speed sensor from the bike computer on my mountain bike would work?? surely its fairly robust?
Please help. I want to try and take my car to Willowbank this weekend.
Cheers,
Julian.

Jaycar has reed switches which will work - about 4 different types. All you want it to do it close the switch and allow 12V through a couple of times per revolution.
www.jaycar.com.au -> search: "reed"
Alternatively, have you taken out your instrument cluster and had a good look at the circuit board for the speedometer? You should find a spot on that circuit board somewhere labelled "4P" - this is the "SPD" signal as given by the speedo for the other AE92 models.

Apparently it is there well it is on the CSI dashes Mr Purcell pointed it out to me. You would be better off finding a SX dash and installing that better dash more gauges and you get the rpm tacho as well i believe you are missing in the CS or is that the CSX or other models.

I have searched the back of the guages before for the "4P" but it just doesn't exist on mine. The car is a CS Limited so it was originally carby 4A but has a tacho.
I went to Jaycar at lunchtime and they showed me a low voltage NO reed switch which was a tiny little glass tube with a very thin wire hanging out of each end. you could see the "reeds" inside and it all looked VERY delicate. I explaned what it was for and he said I could also use a Hall effects sensor. It sounds very much the same as a reed switch so I bought one and a packet of magnets. It's also miniscule, looks like it should be carefully soldered to a circuit board, the head of the sensor is only about the size of a match head. It has three legs/pins which I am told are power-signal-ground.
Have I got the right thing? should I get the delicate glass thing? Have I got it all phucked up?
Your assistance is appreciated guys,
Julian.

hall effect sensor can be used. the data sheet for it is available on the jaycar website.
www.jaycar.com.au -> search "hall effect"
i would have used the home alarm reed switches, but the hall effect will still work ok.

The house alarm ones, really? Do you mean the ones that look like white blocks, looks like they would use em on doors and windows to tell when they get opened. When I saw the high voltages mentioned on the jaycar website I immediately dismissed them thinking they were unsuitable, but then again I know very little about electronics. I'll go back tomorrow and get them. From memory the website said they were only about $7 each.
Thanks.

if this is for the speed sensor to the ecu then i sell
devices that srew onto yr gbox and send an electronic signal to the ecu plus also still run yr cable
since yr car was carby it has no spd to the ecu
these devices i sell are for toyotas and are very easy to install
i cant get it to u by weekend but i am flying to brissy this tuesday to fix a car if u want one
