Yep, this was in the West Australian newspaper over the weekend - bought 14 years ago from its original owner in Queensland for $5000 and transported to Perth. The Perth owner rebuilt and resprayed the body shell but unfortunately died two years ago, leaving the car incomplete.
The widow found somebody to complete the restoration - total cost of restoration (including original $5000 purchase) of car is estimated at $39500.
I have seen one of these in the Fremantle Motor Museum - they're cool, and so small!

Yeah, It was direct competition for the Honda 800 in the day... But Honda decided to make the S2000... but toyota never designed a new one...oh and the Datsun Fairlady

I think you would lower the value of the car if you stuck a different engine in it!
But, considering the original engine had around 45 HP, something like a 4AG would certainly make it fly!

I'm all for modifying, however that is just not right.
Why would you take one of the rarest and coolest sporty Toyota's and then put one of the most common and uninspiring engines in it?

i think there was one of these at the 2004 AllToyota Day in brisbane. i'll have to check my pics at home but the engine bay looks very familiar.

There is one of those at the Freo Car Museum.
From memory, the article in The West said there are six or seven in the country.
