gigante wrote on Wed, 09 February 2005 13:17 | hey guys and girls....
im interested in both the mz20 soarer and the jza70 supra, both in manual, and if you could tell me the differences between them.
i like the jza70 supra because of the 1jz engine, but i also like the shape of the soarer..
ive searched google to find some info about the mz20 soarer but couldnt find much..
comparing these two cars tell me which one you would think would be the better everyday street cruzer and street racer.
thanks
|
JZA70 is faster stock. I think it would be easier to get a manual JZA70 than a manual MZ20. I have never been in a JZA70 but I used to have a gz20 and the interior is really nice in them and from what I have read the MZ20 is a bit better.
If you can get a BHG 7m for cheap, I would get one and do the MHG thing. Otherwise, I would be leaning towards a jza70.

In stock form, the only MZ20's that came out in manual are the Aero top ones (rare). As stated above, the JZA70 is going to be quicker, handle better, better brakes etc The MZ20 is a luxobarge, you are comparing a car that is built for luxurious, quiet, smooth and that is easy to drive/cruise in. The Supra is more designed with performance in mind (except they always seem to forget that performance cars aren't meant to weigh so friggen much) it would be less smooth, quiet and easy to drive - by that I mean, more harsh suspension etc.
Both are excellent cars, I have never owned a Supra, but I have owned a MZ20 and they are beautiful cars, but can seriously bight you in the bum with the whole BHG thing - even if you do go the MHG. I did MHG, ARP studs etc by the book EXCEPT for decking the block, and it still gave me grief.
Hope that helps!

yeah that was my next question lolz
but it would cost a fair bit to drop in the engine when instead i could be spending the money on the jza70 with the factory 1jz there.

I think MZ21s are HOT, that'd be my next car if i could afford one. I'd buy one of them over a JZA70 ( and thats coming from someone owning essentially that car)

There wasnt an aerotop in the MZ20 range there is the aerocabin which is an electric hardtop convertable style. There was only 500 built in 1989 and as far as Im aware they are all 7mgte autos. The aerotop was used in the supras and is a bit like a t-top without the bit in the middle.
fell free to correct me but im pretty sure that only the the gz20 and the mz20 GT had a manual model. the mz20/21 GT LTD were all autos as were the aerocabins.

I have now owned both cars and although I did like the JZA70.
I just love the boxy but sleek shape of the soarer.
My car does have a 1JZ in it aswell, I bought the car
as is and the person who aparrently built it is on here.
His name is "JAZE", have a talk to him if you are serious.

Well they are very similar inside, the soarer has coilovers fitted and a bit more power than my supra, so there was no real comparison. The supra was a stock "R type" so it had the bilstein suspension, so therefore it was fairly stiff ride from the fatcory.
It just lacked what my soarer has. I do miss her though.
