FS: Custom forged ARIAS 18RG pistons, 92mm, 12.5:1 comp. And 18RG guides Wed, 09 February 2005 13:28 Go to next message
I have a set of 92mm 12.5:1 custom forged ARIAS pistons to suit 18RG, barely used as they were in a speedway race engine.

run with alcohol and mechanical injection back in the 80's, car was unbeatable in its class, would make a good investment for anyone building up a class A celica engine.

Never split a bore with these pistons

Pistons are 3.5mm oversized {141 thou, 0.141"} holden 186 chrome moly rings work with them.

with a std stroke it'll be 2127cc, 2.127L

pistons look like a std 18RG pistons with half a tennis ball on top Confused , the dome is solid alloy, so can be machined down to lower compression.

also comes with the 3 guides for the head, these guides are worth a fortune alone.

retail price of the pistons back in the mid 80's was approx $1200, retail of the guides now is approx $400.

you can have it all for $600, parts are located in townsville but can be shipped anywhere.

If you just want the pistons its $500, it's worth the extra $100 for the guides, can get pictures after the weekend.

They belong to my dad, he owns a machine shop so they can be machined while they are there for a small cost.

1. Do you have the timing chain tensioner slipper? (the curved one that is only mounted on one end, ie. the tensioner pushes it into the chain)

2. Is it brand new/ what is its condition if not

3. If yes to above questions, please PM me with a price for that part if you don't mind separating.

I'll have a little think about the pistons, as I'm shopping for a set of those too, only I'd have to shave a lot from the crown so I could use them for turbo (8.5:1 ish CR wanted)

he has all 3 in the head, the one between the 2 cam gears, the big stationary banana one and the tensioner one.

no real point in buying the pistons if u r gonna mill them down to 8.5, just get some 8.7's, get a forged copy made and go from there

Ok, I agree about the me machining the pistons, however, I've told my brother about them and he wants them for his N/A engine.

Just to touch up some of the answers from the last question,

Are the tensioners new/ what condition are they in?

Is there any damage on the pistons, ie. scratches, dings etc.
Being used in a speedway engine I would hope that they were used with a good airfilter!

Anyway, if they're in good condition and the timing guides are too, then we'll pay the money for them.

How does that sound?

Thanks,

Steve M

hehehhehehehehehe

i think the guides are very slightly used, my dad is in adelaide for an ANDRA meeting at the moment, so no pics yet Confused , the pistons are in very good nick, i dare say they'd have massive air filters on them or else the engine'd last about 3 seconds with all that mud flying around Very Happy

pm me your mobile no and email addy and i'll contact u when i talk to him, prolly tomoz morn

How are we going with those pistons, have you able to contact your Dad yet?

I think I remembered writing a PM, but I reckon I forgot to send it as it has not come up on my list of sent messages, sorry about the wait if that is the case.

Sending you PM now.

Just for interest, your signiture mentions a 20/20 grind to the crank.
What does this mean?

he owns melvins automotive over at currajong,

guides are brand spanking new, never used, will get pics early this week

pistons have cut outs for big valves and massive lift, would have to be running some wild shit for it to be a problem,

just remember they were used in a speedway race motor running methanol, so big cams were used.

20/20 means both the mains and big ends were ground 20 thou
10/10 means both 10 thou

oh, my dad can supply suitable rings for $50 extra

Sounds pretty good to me!

So let me know how you want to do this and we'll take those pistons and guides off your hands. Smile

Still $600 for the lot?

What was the reason behind the crank regrind being so large?
Also wondering what bearings you will be using now.
