1g-ge vital Stats Tue, 29 October 2002 01:45 Go to next message
An engineer has told me if we can do the maths and prove the centroid of the 1g engine isn't that much different to the 18RC then I might be able to convince Transport SA that I don't need to have braking and lane change testing done for approval. This would mean a saving of about $600-$700 dollars.
So does anyone know the dimensions and masses of the two engines?
I can also get bonus points if I show that the engine was in a car that also had the option of an 18R type engine.
So do I have this right? the 1 g engine was in a early supra (GA70?) that was the same chassis base as an RA65 celica, which had an 18RG engine. is that right, how badly am I clutching at straws. Razz

Cheers
Andrew

Very Smile

The weight of a 1GGTE is supposed to be around 175kg so I'd imagine the weight of a 1GGE would be similar. The 18R would probably be close to the same weight maybe slightly lighter.

As for length, its small for a six but still pretty long compared. An RA65 came with a 22RE. This is a "similar" chassis to the Mk2 Supra or Celica XX (like my GA61). Have I confused you or did that make sense?

It makes sense, I think I have given up though, too much extra money to get engineering done with no guarantee that the car will pass, getting married in april and should really think about saving money for that! I will now go through the whole process again for an 18RG, and hope it is simpler. Maybe one day when i am middle aged I will find a nice 1g to put into a project car.
Thanks
Andrew
