JZZ30 1JZ- VL Conversion Wiring Help Fri, 11 February 2005 20:36 Go to next message
HI guys,
Just after some confirmation and any hints or tips you can provide.
The wires that need to connect to the JZZ30 loom from the VL is only, earths, ignition, starter, power, dash guages, fuel pump.
I have fitted the JZZ30 fuse/relay box into the standard VL and am hoping the headlight/fan heater relay can be used to run the VL accessories.
Anything I missing?

Cheers Ben

yr bettter off using the vl fusebox

a vl has 10 or 12 relays and trying to figure what everything does will be a very very long job

with the jzz30 1j u need a fuel pump ecu to get the fuel pump to run properly

i usually run them off ignition or get an rmp activated switch

headlight and fan relays can be a pain if they work of different pricinples

if i were u id put the vl fusebox back in

ok, i can not used the VL fuse/relay as most of them have melted due to the poor quality and design particularly ther head light relays.

Does anyone know how the JZZ30 headlight relay works?

Sideshow: u mentioned you can wire the furl pump via the ignition, this would mean the fuel pump would run 100% of the time, even in a crash? how long til those rpm switches are avaible?

well i can get the relays for bit over 100 bucks but i cant get the relay holders anymore

maybe try an msd rpm switch
see if theres anyhting that will work at 400 rpm

there is no easy way to run the fuel pump on a jzz

unless u buy the fuel pump ecu that comes with it or u find an rpm activated switch

to do this properly sometmes adds 200 to 300 bucks to the price so most people dont want to fork out the cash

have u sorted out all the other relays in the vl fusebox unit

i recon it would be easier to find a half descent fusebox from a vl from the wreckers

here is sydney theres local wreckers with shitlaods of vls and i always see the fuseboxes still there

the main reason they stuff up is people fit brighter globes in the headlights

i have mucked round with power windows and crusie control and stuff on vls

i think yr in for a long job doin it that way

but i guess thats how u have started it now

RPM switch is easy - either go to the wreckers, or an LPG conversion place, and get a 'lock off controller' - no more than $30 new, and it's normally used to turn the lock off valves on for LPG cars. These things keep the power on for 3 seconds without the engine turning, basically work just like the ECU for controlling the fuel pump. But then again, it's not exactly tricky to wire up the fuel pump as the factory intended using the circuit open relay...

thats what ive been sayin al lthis time

u cant run just the circuit openin relay with jzz30 1js

the ecu does not have a negative output for triggering the circuit opening relay

u still use the factory circuit opening relay but u need something else other than the ecu

to trigger it

all soarers have a fuel pump ecu

the engine ecu has a funny trigger to the fuel pump ecu

this trigger does not work on circuit opening relays

Sideshow,
what is your thoughts on mrshin 'lock off controller' idea, could it work?

yer i know about those things

i was goin to ask my auto electrician bnout them

but they are the same principle as what im talkin bout

rpm activated switch

or u can even use a holden tachometric relay

just that some relays cost over 100 bucks

u can try the lpg ones to trig a relay

i just dont know if the rpm signal from a 1j or anything with a multiple coil setup will be strong enough

i have used that device on a lpg v8 in a cobra

but this thing had a signle coil with a very strong
rpm signal

just ask yr local auto elect if they need a strong rpm signal

there's different ones available (some solid state, some use a relay), they're usually designed to switch up to 5-10 amps, so I'd probably advise another relay (especially with a solid state one - transistor voltage drop), and they'll normally activate off almost anything. Either the tacho wire or straight off one of the coils should be fine. If for some reason it wasn't, you could always 'join' a few of the coils together with diodes.

I didn't realise the 1JZ relay was different to most of the other toyota stuff, point noted!
