this may have been covered before, but i couldn't find anything on sizes using search
so what size speakers are the stock ones in an ae82 corolla?
also, what sizes will fit in there besides the stock size, if any?
or is it a better idea to go in the doors?

4" in the dash and 6"x4" on the side of the rear deck .
The dash will only take a 4" speaker after two corners on the speaker are removed . The speakers in the rear deck, with a little work in mounts up to 6" maybe even a 6.5" .
But all in all i've got 4" in the dash and 6.5" in the doors to me it seems good

when you say rear deck, you mean the sections on both sides of the parcel shelf? cause ive already got alpine 6x9's in there, came with the car
actually, come to think of it, i haven't even checked to see if the front dash ones are stock
im thinking of doing the whole sound system thing. gotta get a head unit, front speakers (maybe ), a sub and an amp. btw, what do you people find is a good power rating for some sensible bass (not doof doof )?
i have a few choices for my first mod:
1. relocate/buy new air filter. atm its just clamped straight onto the TVIS system, sucking hot air from the engine bay (no i didn't do it, the previous owner did )
2. get some decent rims. about 16 inchers i think, but ill wait till i need new tyres so i dont just waste the current ones (14in)
3. do the sound system, as above
damn, i need a thread in the member's rides

Good chance they're not cause the stockos are crap.

Just use the standard airbox. I was running an airpod at one stage and all i got from it was induction noise and something like a whistle around the 3000rpm mark, haven't looked back since.

but the thing is, it doesnt look like it would be very good at actually filtering. its a foam ram filter, but the foams not very dense. so i was thinking of just getting a fully sik k&n filter or something like that
btw, would a pod filter fit in the ae82's airbox? only a general question, obviously!

like this one?

how does that go in, does it fit over the hole pointing towards the engine bay?
btw, is an un-enclosed pod filter illegal? ive had some mates tell me illegal, some tell me legal
and only one 10 or 12 inch sub . not doof doof, just some respectable bass
oh, and i just checked, the front ones are'nt stock anyway
they're philips 4 inchers

Yep like that one .
An un-enclosed pod filter is illegal but if you make up an enclosure it'd be legal . Its an EPA reason . There was a thread a while back on the same subject .
Go for the single 12 in a sealed box . But thats my thoughts, i'd be asking at a car audio shop for a bit of advise .

Assuming that you won't compete in spl a 12 inch will be too large.
look at your smallest speaker i.e your front 4's if your looking to simply enhance your soundstage I wouldn't use anything too large. Go with an 8 inch sub in a sealed box and mount it in the very rear corner of your boot, if you don't wanna fibre glass use a small wedge shaped or triangle shaped sealed box behind the rear seats with the sub firing towards the rear hatch. Try a fusion encounter dual voice coil 8" I was using 1 of these in my mr2 with the fusion fe504 amp. that will give you about 110 wrms of power to your sub as well as giving you 2 more channels for your front stage at less than the cost of a 12 sub and amp.

okay by a wedge box I mean instead of being a square shaped box one side of the box slants ie a wedge shape, same with triangle. You do this so that there are no standing wave in the box, i.e. no air is rebounding directly back onto the sub, this will give the sub much better response. when i said put the sub in a corner i mean that you would fibreglass a box to the rear corner of the car so the it all looked like it was supposed to be there and will take up as little boot space as possible....
you may have a little prob finding a 8 inch at places like autobahn, stathfield etc as many of the salespeople there seam to think that an 8 will not give as good of response as a 12!?
If you have trouble i can get earthquake and fusion so if you really have trouble finding something to suit just p.m me.

yeah that makes sense with the air waves, me doing yr12 physics and all
but yeah, i prob wont go the fibreglass
oh, and thanks for that offer! I'll have a look around town first, although i haven't got as much choice as all you city dwellers!

Toyota used Philips speakers in the ae82. if they are a single cone they are more than likely to be the stock speakers from the factory.
