Hi, my first question regarding my favorite shape Celica.
But what is the difference between a TA and an RA (for example TA22 vs RA22? Are they both in Australia?
Thanks in advance!
Derek.

The engine The TA has a T series where the RA has an R series. The RA22 was not available in Australia.

The main difference is the front of the car. The TA's have a pointy nose on them, the bumper and parkers point out on an angle, where the RA23 has a flat front end. The grills are also different.
The inside of an TA22 is more curvy than an RA23 and they have different consoles.
Apparently the length on the RA23's are slightly longer (in the engine bay) This was so they could fit R series engines in them. The bonnets also have a hump in the middle of them to make room for the engine.
Petrol tank's are also another factor, the early TA22's had a petrol tank in the floor of the boot but they changed this from about 74 onwards to a tank that sat upright against the back seat for safty reasons, and carried this into the RA23's.
Hopefull that can help you to identify the difference now

Derek,
Mate this is potentialy a HUGE question. If you narrow it doen to Australia only you have 3 similar models to choose from (RA28 Liftback and JDM imports Excluded)
The TA22 - 1971 to 1975
The TA23 - 1976 to 1976
The RA23 - 1976 to 1977
The TA22 is VERY different to the xA23.
The TA23 and RA23 and similar. Engine drive train and brakes form the main differences.

Rodney,
What are the visual differences of the body of a TA23 and a RA23.
Are the TA23's more like the TA22's or the RA23?
cheers

TA23 and RA23 look exactly the same, except the TA23 has 13" rims from the factory while the RA23 has 14".

Cool, thanks for that. I don't imagine that there would be many TA23's out on the road these days.

Actually I think they were sold for about a year after the TA22 was discontinued and before the RA23 was released, so there'd have to be a few around. You wouldn't know just by looking at them though, unless you happened to notice the 1600 badge on the back.
