RA40 to RA60 front strut conversion info required Mon, 14 February 2005 22:38 Go to next message
Hi all,

Im in the market for a pair of new / 2nd hand struts to sauit my RA40 Celica. However someone suggested that the RA60 would be a better buy. Can anyone tell me what is required in order to swap from RA40 to RA60 front struts? Is it a straight bolt in which I can do myself or is there surgery required?

And if anyone has a pair of front struts laying around which they would like to convert to cash, let me know!

what do you need the ra60 struts for that the ra40 can't.
Except for maybe easy upgrades using nissan callipers.
something i would like to try myself though to correct the positive camber issue they apparently give would be to perform a rack and pinion conversion that turbora28 has performed then you kill 2 birds with one stone. the R&P conversion according to Blackra28 increases track width...so...
you get rack and pinion AND you get an ra60 strut with no positive camber issues.

Well the car cost me $100. Its got leaking front struts right now which is holding me back from getting an RWC. Otherwise the car is sound, so I was originally looking for a pair of front struts, someone said the RA60 struts would be a better buy as they have bigger brakes etc.. So my question was whats required to install the RA60 struts. Not interested in a major conversion as I use the car to get to and from the train station.

If anything difficult is involved.. Then I will just get a good 2nd hand pair of RA40 struts.

Getting it to work properly is difficult, because the camber angles are all wrong. If you want something easy, forget the RA60 struts.
