flywheel machining

hey guys just wondering is it dangerous or anything to just put a stock 2tg flywheel on a lathe and machine it for a lil less wieght?? my new engine needs to go in asap but im not putting it in till got a lighter flywheel. if anyone got one for sale im real keen too. lol. cheers

Probably not the greatest idea ever... you wouldn't want to take off too much or you would weaken it too much.
You also wouldn't want to get it too far out of balance.

I have seen the result of a machined flywheel failing... it's not something you wanna mess around with!
Just remember, a cast flywheel has most of it's strength in the outer layer.. once you machine that off, the inner stuff is actually fairly weak.

If you want a light flywheel, get one made. There are a few places around that fabricate them, just send them your stocker and they'll make a new one to whatever specs you desire.

My 1uz one cost $460 with a new ring gear.
But that wasn't a one off.
And its billet steel, not billet aluminum.
