icon3.gif  6 speed aw11 questions. Tue, 15 February 2005 06:59 Go to next message
Is it at all possible to use the sixspeed box from a blacktop 20 valve in a aw11 mr2.
Wouldn't i simply have to change the linkages?
I'm not sure on the strength of this box, would it support a 4agte producing 200rrkw?

Try these on for size

I'd say the C60 would be very similar to the C160

And I'd suggest joining up with www.mr2oc.com if you haven't already

As for strength, I don't really know.
Logic tells me though, C series gearbox = poo

Ive got no experience with this so im guessing

but i rekon the linkages on the c160 would be on the opposite side to the aw11 gearbox(s), with the casing on the gearbox where the linkage comes out of also being different, aw11 facing north, c160 facing south. I doubt it would be as simple as bolting off limkage section from aw11 box and onto c160 simply because the case itself is different. Im sure its possible tho, with some clever linkages etc

as for stength i doubt its as strong as the e5x box

From what i have heard the 6 speed C series box from a 20v will get eaten by a 4agte.

yes, munch munch

and why do you want a 6speed?the ratios are such that it doesnt make much difference, and with the extra torque your engine has theres no need for 6 gears...

thanks for the info guys it's been helpful. As to why i want a 6 speed.............Not too much reason I was wondering whether being the 6 speed i'd be able to put around @ 100km with out having to do 3200rpm, that's prob the big reason other than of course the show appeal.

Yeah but it's not running, the standard 4agze pistons (AE101) were not up to the job and have fried and the injectors are running out off puff at 7800rpm it;s been built to redline at 9000rpm, I'm saving for some wiseco forged pistons and 1000cc injectors. I don't even know what power it's makin it blew on the first run at 2 bar, and that was after running everthing in for 3500km. It's proving to be very expensive and time consuming to make a 200+ rrkw mr2!

bah humbug, stop yer whinin Wink

4500rpm at 100km is not that annoying.... 4800 would be tho.

why not change diff ratios? means you can stay in gear longer (since you have the torque, and gearchanging is what will slow you down) AND lower high speed rpm.

is the 6th a second overdrive? or is it a normal 5th with 5 close ratios going up to 1:1?

The guy here is putting the 6 speed in.

http://www.20vmki.com/index1.html?section=20vswap& amp;content=20vswap/transmission.html

looks like he's doing it by swapping over the selector shafts.
