Hello all,
Does anyone know of any companies that make adjustable short stroke dampers to suit an AE86 coil-over conversion?
I know TRD has their short strokes which are interchangable between modified '86 MacPhersons and the AE92 & 101 (Yellow i think). But these seem pretty hard to find (and expensive)
Tokico, which i'm pretty sure make TRD's yellows, has the HTS and a range of others which i cant really find much info on at all. But guru's the world over rave about Tokico.
A place here in SA spent a while on the fone to Koni for me (nice guys) then informed me that Koni can supply all the hard ware; Pair of damper cartridges (bound and reboud adjustable) to siut my requirements along with threaded sleeves, platforms and lockers for $300 a pair.
One downer though is that Koni's adjustment must be made from the bottom (take the whole strut apare for any changes - bad).
Someone must know something

I thought Koni made adjustable short stroke inserts (not specifically for the AE86, but if you have shortened the strut then from SW20 or RX7 etc, not to sure on that part) that you could adjust on the top of the strut in-car with that little clicker thing they use.

From what the guy told me, one adjustment (bound or rebound) is made from the top while the other needs to be made from below.

didn't you suggest a while ago the use of AE92 strut inserts cos of their similar dimentions, and when spaced up at the bottom provide far less travel??? i recall something like holding a five inch lowered spring captive...

Yeah Rex, I think you could be right only rebound is adjusted at the top of the strut (external).
I'll be able to confirm in a few weeks when I do this myself.
Cheers.

Got a thing from the place about the new 8611 double adjustable motorsport inserts. The good thing is that they come in a range of different sizes/strokes.
They are adjusted from top (rebound) and bottom (compression) However they are not too hard to adjust. they require a 1/2inch hole drilling in the base of the housing so the adjustment screw can be reached. So you dont need to dismantle the entire thing to fully sdjust them.
One prohibitive aspect is cost however, the inserts are $500 each.
DANG!!!!!
