I only found this out today, and thought I'd share for those not in the know.
I always knew how to change gears without clutching (rev changing), but I figured I was boned when I stopped. A quick call to my mechanic, and he tells me simply by turning the car off, putting it in first and cranking it over witha bit of throttle you can get the car going.

sure enough, this works! got me home with a busted master cylinder... very useful tip if you fry a clutch or bust a clutch line.

true! never thought of that. also had same
problem and tried driving without stopping
which was impossible lol, few push starts
later i was home. not recommended tho, a
tow home is cheaper than a gearbox swap Rolling Eyes

I had to do it one night while on a trip to New York City. Master cylinder bolt came loose on my '84 MA67 unknown to me. Had to drive through Harlem, the Bronx to Yonkers where I was staying. Made it no problem and no one shot at us!!!!!

Funny, some New Yorkers in NYC see a license plate that is from Ontario and they seem to put on attitude... what ever!!!!

Done it a few times, it's a pain but can be done.
Alternate routes by the highway suddenly look pretty good. Smile

Thats pretty much how I start my KE70 when I get in the car, can't be good for her but hey she loves the abuse!

This happened to me on the way to work one morning, except my clutch cable snapped in the KE70 as I was clutching in to slow down as I was getting to some traffic lights. After rigging up some wire to pull my clutch in from the snapped cable, then a wire coming next to the shifter that would pull the clutch back in, I thought fuck it, I'll be "late for work" and go down to the local wreckers with a mate (both happened to be within a few km's) to find a clutch cable. I also ended up with an RA65 pedal and cable for the 18RGEU, some interior trim and dash parts, and an XC falcon passenger side mirror all for my RA23.

mmm - well mine only had to make 4 of those horrid starts, which prolly dropped the life of gbox and starter motor, but what can ya do? I never want to see another tow truck again.
when you're on a first name basis with the towie, and as soon as you say "1984 toyota supra" he doesn't even need your address anymore...

Blew my clutch at a sprint 4 years ago. Did exactly that to get home.
Getting pulled over by a cop for displaying a competition number wasn't part of the plan however. Laughing

Love the starter, I've had to do that trick a few times Smiley =

Had to drive home from the depths of menai with a broken clutch cable in the 4x4 once. Taught me accelerator control and also to think quickly though Smiley =
