Engine code confusion Thu, 17 February 2005 23:07 Go to next message
Hey,

Two of my friends have a debate going on and I just wanna clear it up for the both of them. Just wondering, the 2JZ GTE...is that the twin turbo one or is it the 2JZ GTTE? My common sense is telling me the latter one but just wanna make sure before I make an ass of myself! Hehehe. Also, is the 2JZ GTE or 2JZ GTTE the engine from the latest Supra?

Also, my friend was saying that the twin turbo supra engine can fit into an RA28. Is that true? Pls clear up this whole mess for me please! Been trying to look on the net but no clear answers.

Thanks heaps!

James

Nissan uses 2 T's for twin turbo, Toyota only use one T for single or twin turbo. Can get confusing as some engines were available as both single and twin.

So does that mean that the 2JZGTE is a twin AND a single?

The 2JZ-GTE is a twin turbo.
The early 1JZ-GTE's were also twin turbo, but when they adopted VVTi in 1999 (?) they went to a large single turbo. Engine code stayed the same.

regardless of how many turbos a toyota engine has the code will always have one T

nissan use two T's to denote twin turbos, and beacuse you see many references to the RB26DETT in magazines people pick up on it and incorporate it into other manufacturers codes

we have even witnessed someone refer to the 1JZ-GTE engine as a JZ25DETT

for more info on toyota engine codes see this link

http://www.toymods.org.au/engine_codes.html

as for the RA28 thing, there are 3 possible supra twin turbo engines that your friend could be referring to

1G-GTE
1JZ-GTE
2JZ-GTE

your "learndeded" friends need to be more specific, any of these engines will fit into an RA28 depending on budget, hell if the budget is big enough u can slot a 454 big block in there as well.

Thanks for the replies guys....u are all so learnedned....LOLz!

Where do u learn this stuff? U guys are mechanics or something or just from your friends fixing up cars and stuff? I, and from the sounds of it, my friends too, need to learn more about cars. They know a lot more when it comes to the other companies like Nissan and Subaru...u know which cars they would be talking about. I wanna stick to my guns and stay loyal to the Toyota. Just need to save a hell of a lot of money to get the darn cars...

Oh wells, again I say thanks and kudos.
