Ahhh! Straight line drag in my mighty 40hp KE20 against Justin's old red Sprinter. As soon as I heard him cleaning his teeth I knew I had him. I never expected the old 'rolla to keep up in straight line! With anything! Maybe we'll have to have a rematch when our 20V's are going (if I pass the eyesight test for old farts, reckon mine will be done in about 2 more years!)

my most unexpected win was probably against a 300 kw new model hsv gts.
It was in the single (divided road) lane at the honeysuckle development in Newcastle. I puuled up behind him and at the next roundabout he nailed it, he caught me off guard, but by the end of second gear I had to back off or I would have run up his arse.
It was heaps low and very loud with 18 inch rims. I couldn't hear my car over it, so anyone who knows my car will know that is pretty loud !!
Who knows what mods,, anyway I smoked it !!

r32 gts-s munched it hard with my first 7m-ge in the cressida it was so funny when i told the guy it was my mums...
at another set of lights i come up next to a current shape XR8 ute he was revving it up so i stalled it up and started smoking them up the lights went green i let go of the brake and al i could hear was this xr going hard (it sounded mad) i was still wheel spinning, but to my suprise up to about 85k he couldn't pull even then started catching and very slowly passing i was freakin stoked
one more that was cool was a r32 gtr on the M2 we were slowly building up speed and at 160 i signaled to lets go i droped it into third and the gtr couldn't pull away we got some big speeds i don't want to mention (fun but dangerous)in 7 hills we pulled up at the lights both put down the windows and i said fark is that turbo he said twin,(i smiled)then he said W>T>F have done to that thing and again i gave the famouse mum line it was a clasic..i gave him a lil burn out and he done the same back but with all four flucken wheels man that thing had grunt...

TA22 beats sprinter! NOT

Well my most memorable and unexpected win was against a certain club president when he had a car that did more than sit in the garage and Steves then freshly painted 100Kw AE86.
A three way battle in a backstreet from a standing start saw my poo brown shit box clean them up on every run but to be fair the distance wasnt quite enough for Steve to start pulling hard, we had to back off at about 3rd gear due to the little bend in the road and the battle between Rod and I was incredibly close, sometimes it just comes down luck I guess as both these cars should have beaten me reasonably easily, on the down side I did crack the block and my car has never run as well since
Rod when are you gonna put a roll cage in Tinas car so we can go have some fun in the dirt

Mate, I'd be surprised if you didn't stomp on that crapcel.
I think we should be a little more easy on them though. Next time you might want to take off all your tyres and leave your car on blocks. Then the crapcel might have a chance.

I remember that run. I took it 500rpm further than usual, the box refused to cooperate, and denied me second gear for 2 seconds;enough time for you to get 2 lengths in front, which I couldn't pull in over the last hundred metres. I had the whip out but I couldn't get past your rear quarter by the finish. I thought at the time it would be fairly close a run(pretty equal power to weight ratios),and it was.
a rematch sounds like fun. I should be ready by mid next year at the current pace the project is running at. two sets of quad throttles barking at 8k.... oh,music to my ears!!
Justin...
oh,btw: my most unexpected win? coming home from singleton in the gold sprinter with two other cars;a black stockie S15 pulled in behind us,and tried in vain to keep up. I found it quite a surprise that he couldn't keep with me through the corners. he'd fall several hundred metres behind (out of sight basically) in the adjoining twisty sections, but would catch back up once we hit a hill or decent straight. on a flat track,or through the city,I would have owned him.
I thought (at the time) that nissan had made big changes to the silvia suspension since the S14. I've since worked on a few S15s and now know that not a lot has changed, the std suspension IS better, but still lets down an otherwise good car.
not many people believe me when I tell that story. I have witnesses though ^_-,and they were laughing their asses off watching a new turbo car wiggling all over the place trying to keep with a fairly flat-sitting 4AC sprinter,18yrs it's senior. there's hope for the carby engine yet!

This is a true story but I don't think anyone will believe it.
I've beaten a WRX in my Mum's auto AE82 Rolla. IN THE RAIN!! Well, beat him enough to get in front and cut him off from a set of lights.
This was back when WRX's first came out and no one (apart from RS Turbo nuts like me) knew about them. Came to a set of red lights with the WRX sitting there. I needed to get home quick so I popped into the left lane (which was ending after the lights). I stayed about 2 car lengths back and when the lights from the other direction turned red, I slammed on the accelerator. The power of the AE82 made sure that there was not a single hint of wheelspin (even though it was pouring).
He had no chance, I was in front and cut him off before the lights turned green and he even reacted...
hahah
Go the Rolla!!

Heh, that's why this is called unexpected wins. Because the cars that are beaten don't expect you want to race and you surprise them. Sorry couldn't help myself Nark.

I was out crusin thru the cross the other night and this Western Oriental Gentleman pulled up in his fullsick VL with all his mates in the back, he started revving it so I watched the opposite lights and when they went red I floored it to catch the my green before it lit , but there was really no need as he dumped the clutch and stalled it on the line, all his mates laughed at him...was soooo funny

96kw 4age in an ae86 with the 4ac exhaust beating a vr acclaim.
3 car lengths.
had a good launch...
the slicks are gone now as it's wet (major safety issue) and I can't launch the car so well with retreads.
Also, I was running BP98 and him some fuelzone ULP...
but the lil 1.6 that shouldn't, did. hehe.
also, when the car was 4ac, i beat an auto UC torana with a 202. that was fun, both straightline and twsities (him with his 3 years experience, and me with my 1 month.).
I also took a 318i BMW with the 4ac! 2 outta 3.
they were all unexpected to me. the dude in the BMW was quite shocked, 2002 model.

You guys dont have to believe this but anyway, here goes...
I use to own an old Camry. It was a 2lt 4-cylinder. My mate at works has a 5litre VK. One time we stayed back at work real late...like 3am (We finished at 12am). Anyway, we wanted to hurry up and get to my place coz he needed some stuff. So we decided to have races on the Western Ring Road. There were no cars on the road so we found a nice straight and stopped in the middle of the freeway. Then we both ripped it on a 1-2-3 count. He killed me hard. Then we were talking on our mobiles and we were going 60ks in the 60 zone where they were doing road works. My gearbox couldnt handle a downgear to 2nd but I did it and it made this horrible crank noise and I wanted for him to count and we were side by side til we got to about 160 and I changed to 5th and I beat him coz his car stopped moving after that.
That was sweet. His VK was auto btw...
But anyway, that Camry could go. I also beat my mates n/a 2l Silvia. I beat my mates Alfa GTV6 as well. But I think I beat it coz his clutch is really hard and it takes longer to shift gears. My mates who own a VS commodore 6 and a EB XR8. They were dragging each other and I was behind them. But I was not far behind. Killed but it did alright. BTW the VS won.
In my Supra...I beat an excel, mates Alfa, mates EB at top end. oooooooohhh...and I beat a VL turbo too. That was at 90k's when the car gets lots of speed. Then the lights were red and I didn't race him coz I would have gotten killed. Couldn't have that when my gf was in the car!! Anyway, that VL made me want a turbo BAD!!!

sorry to bring up an old thread,
i have a 85 VK berlina auto with the dodgy EFI 202
in this particular car i have never lost to a vl 6 cyl manual or auto, beat my mates 200rwkw R32 GTS 5 speed manual,
we rolled up to the lights in the rain, i stalled it up, launched, i got about 2 foot before i started spinning both rears and just held it sideways at 5000rpm {about max} thru 1st and 2nd and just left him, he just fishtailed uncontrollably. i'll have to put the vid up here when i get it on comp.
i raced a VK 308 manual back from the caost one night, we both had 4 ppl in the car, he was able to drop down gears i just have to stomp it, he had a small {1 foot} lead to about 150 and then i passed him then and had about 1.5 cars on him by about 200.
this fella in a EL ghia v8 manual{yes it was manual}, line me up going home one night as well, he had 4 ppl too {i had 2} we raced and he only pulled away at 150, this bloke lined up everyone on the way home, like a 1.6l baleno a LWB RAV4 a supra 2jz. since we were going so fast {average 130} we eventually caught up to my sister in her RVR Turbo {evo 4wd driveline}
I called her on the mobile and told her to line this fella up cause he was a smart ass, drilled him over and over.
in the end there was 7 of us down the pac highway racing intermittently; me, my sis, the GHIA, the Supra, the baleno, the RAV4 and a CE lancer.
in my old RT104 18rc auto i killed an AE86 at about 140,
i raced my friend in his 76 escort Ghia auto 1.6, it was the funniest race in history, straight off the line he jumped to a half car lead, by 80 i had him, {my car did 0-100 in about 23-27 secs} by 100 we were in hysterics.

I was up in Dubbo for the Toyota Nats where one of the locals in their 'sik' V6 Commodore wanted to have some fun... Me being in my stock Corolla thought, "It'll be fun but I'm gunna get my arse kicked"...
So I threw it back into 2nd and planted it... 7 grand came and threw it into 3rd... The Commo was right next to my front door... "Yay" I thought... "I'm still in front"... 3rd gear, 4500 revs I looked over and was shocked... The Commodore was getting smaller and smaller in my rear view mirror...
"Woo Hoo, I won meself a race against a V6"...
It was a happy day...
Oh and also, I had Juzzo in the car aswell... ...

My ol 4ac sprinter beat my friend's 2ltr na silvia up to 80, which is where he passed me.
Also beat friend's 1.8ltr na silvia when he stuffed up launch. Sure it doesn't sound surprising, but the length i had on him I found surprising.
2nd drag was pretty much dead equal with him about 10cm in front for the whole thing.
Got used to it after a while, that the 4ac could keep up with just able any car in the twisties.
Other than that, I would have got beaten by just about anyone
O my current sprinter beat a stock wrx wagon. Except he did not attempt to give it a good launch. He must have thought he'd catch me anyways. And I'm lucky as I'm told that guy does a pretty mean launch.

HHmmmm....... Would have to be beating an Excel in my old 1978
Datsun Skyline
Datsun - totally stock (owned by my grandparents since new!)
Excel- fullysikbro with a body kit worth double the Datto!!
Saturday night sitting at the lights at Main Beach heading over the bridge to Southport: Right hand turn, im on the outside.
Excel is thumping away (subs) and greeeesy wog driver (im a wog, i can say this) is staring at me like he is the top shit, trying to impress the dog in the passenger seat.
He gives it a rev, the lights turn green, we boot it.
I put the arse end way out into the bus lane and almost clip the rail, his FWD POS is slipping away, trying to drag his arse around and I disappear over the horizon.
It prob. helped that I had just had a big fight with the G/F

(this is both non-yotas but it was a fkn good race )Haha, my win wasnt so unexpected, well, for me it was, but he knew we were racing, gtr r34 - full house (5 people), pulled up to me at the lights revving its nuts off, heres me and my dad in my torana (slr 5000, engine work) the bloke looks at me, laughs (at my car i thought!!) so i gave him a big old rev (what a noise) lights went green, planted it, flat shifted to 3rd and he was left for dead, all his mates laughed at him! Nothing beats my gun of a car (although im looking for a yota hehe)

Unexpected win? I think one that rates most was in my last car the Mitsubishi Scorpion (4G54 2.6L twin 42mm DCOE Webers 4-2-1 extractors, 2" exhaust, head & cam work, etc.) vs a Charger. I had a mate in my car with me and the Charger guy was by himself. I dropped it in first with minimal wheelspin and he planted it in front of me... things got interesting when I hit 3rd gear though. I got from 90km/h to 145km/h in about 4 seconds and completely took him by surprise. I think he let off already but it did come as a surprise to know that my humble carby-powered Scorp could get the torque up that quickly.
Unexpected win (more recent) in the RAV4... against Ben (RollaBoy) coming back from a cruise to North Head and round that area. At the lights, we're lined up and ready to go, I asked "ready?", lights go green and 4WD 96kw powah beats the rolla in first gear and puts distance on him in second. Also zero-wheelspin in the RAV4, just straight-up torque off the line. Bear in mind too that this is when I still had the 3S-FE engine in it.

Was in a rush dropping a friend home in Cabramatta and had to hurry up, drop her home and come back to Berala. This was on Liverpool Road/Hume Highway.
So the lights turned green I was the 2nd car in the middle lane and I got into the left and overtook and got to the front of the pack.
At the next set of lights I didn't go too hard but the mighty 4ac accelerates from 60 pretty quickly (90 corolla csx sedan) and I had no idea there was an MR2 which ended up infront of me with plates EVAKQ8. I got into the left lane again and went kind of quick to let the MR2 driver think I was a bit of a dickhead so I'd get a bit of a race going. We both took off (turned out it was a chick with no passenger) and she beat me off the line but my overdrive (auto. car) lets me get past 5,500rpm and the guages are a little slow so you could say around 6,000rpm. By the time it forced the change into second I'd be side by side and start to pull away. This happened about three times. I slaughtered her though around the bend before you get to Woodville road because she didn't dare to go along it at a fast speed.
My car was pretty dead afterwards though because I'd been thrashing it the entire time but I never thought it was capable of beating the MR2. I don't know what model, but it's newer than the aw11. It looks pretty 95ish.
I also managed to beat my friends manual 2000 corolla seca. We were both going pretty hard and I beat him upto 100km/h but my car struggles after that. Downhill it can get to about 125km/h but straight or uphill and I'll be lucky to hit 110.

I raced a familia turbo in my levin. Got up to 120 odd and we were neck and neck until we both back off. I was stoked! I also beat a cordia turbo.
Beat all those idiots in lancers a guy in a civic. Funniest stuff is when people have know idea what my car is, and when we pull up at the lights they think my car is turboed. The best feeling ever .
I raced a twin turbo soarer, beat it in first gear, but once it hit boost i lost fairly comprehensively.
