Camry 1997 - 2001...?

Hi, I was just wondering...about the Camry...SV22 would it be...? no...23 or or something... ha ha ha...I don't know...the one after the widebody's that came out from 1997 through to I THINK 2001? Just wondering how come I don't see many of these done up or modified or anything? Coz I REALLY like the shape of it...and I've heard the 3.0 litre engine is fairly decent and all...so yeah...? Is the 2.2 litre engine not too good? How's the manual transmission in that? Yeah...is there something just inherently wrong with these...or...? Anyway...thanks a lot...

Hey mate !
People tend to not modify Camrys all-together not just that shape.Although in America its a different story. The 3.0L 1MZ-FE is an excellent engine and TRD USA even released a Supercharger kit for it.The 2.2L 5S-FE in the Camry on the other hand is a different story, not enough power to pull that much weight although it is good the fuel.Me personally dont have anything againts people doing up Camrys,a guy I used to know owned a 3S-GTE Camry. My dad has the shape your talking about and it used to be modded. It had 17" rims,2.5-inch drop all-round,DTM style muffler and full system.

yeah i reckon they look really good, and with a rear spoiler would pass as looking like a real sports car, now if only it was RWD and had alot of power under the hood.

Ha ha ha...yeah...I guess that's why I was wondering...because I think that model can look REALLY just...clean...like...with some nice 17" rims and lowered a bit...and yeah...the 3.0 litre is the 1MZ-FE right? Yeah, umm...you said people tend not to modify camrys all together...why is that...? just personal preference, or actually something wrong with them...? Coz I'm thinking a nicely done 3.0 litre manual Camry would go up pretty well against most cars...plus with the reliability and just convenience of the whole package...

yeha the 3 liter is a good engine, but what you would be trying to achieve is mkae a sports car out of a family sedan. And being a largish fwd, its always going to be at a disadvantage in handling terms. In other words got understeer??

actually ran to 2002 but anyway. Yes the 3.0l is a good engine, needs a good rev though doesn't really start to pull until aroun 3-4K, very quiet engine though, can hardly hear it even at the redline.

Hey i used to own a camry, albeit an sv21 and i did modify it somewhat, before i came to the realisation that there wasn't much point. Anyway if you do want a camry of that generation get the 3.0 touring model, it has tweaked suspension and a few nice bits that set it apart from the lower models, that would be a step in the right direction.

Yep we got a touring manual too not to many around, 2002 model. The suspension is much better than the stock camry's, I drove a 4cyl 98 csi on my l's and it was gay, the six is good but kinda hard to launch quickly. You think you are away cleanly then it hits 4krpm at about 30km/ph and will start to spin the wheels under full throttle. Very reliable, decent handlign but when pushed not that fun good when driven to about 8-9 tenths then after that it just wants to understeer. Very quiet good comfy seats good fuel economy and decent gear changes, brakes work well but abs triggers fairly early.

there are a few touring models getting around up here so don't know about rare (unless they all reside in Toowoomba ). could be the case hey!? not too sure about it myself as they don't seem too get about in numbers like the other models in that shape. defently a nice car, mate of mine has a very quick V6 CSi manual I know not a touring but same motor, in that shape. very relaible and has decent performance for a family V6 of it's age.
