wtb: st185 cs frontbar Sat, 19 February 2005 07:09 Go to next message
my current gt4 bumper has slight damage on it.
instead of repairing it, I want to replace it with a CS front bar which came of the st185 rally cars.

if I cant find a 2nd hand one, I'm going to try a buy it from toyota.

also i am wondering, is all I need is the front bar? Is there any other bits i might need for the bumper to fit properly?
I've heard conflicting things said about this.. so i would like anyone who has fitted a CS front bar to their ST184/185 to help me out a bit with this.

should I also post this in tech and conversions?

Thanks.

I picked mine up at Toyota for $370. It's brand new, took 2 days to get, and I feel more confident having an original over a fibreglass one that would cost $300. It's flexible and screams quality.

I've been told that the reinforcement bar made of pressed steel in the normal GT4's can be used for the CS bar (Bodgy though), so I'm going to tear apart the front and see whether it needs any modifications and then get a new reo bar made in aluminium (The one that Toyota wants to sell is $500 or some crazy figure!!!). Apart from that I also think there is something "up top" to hold it in place, but I'm not too sure.

What I'm trying to find is an underspoiler for the front... a "lip" that bolts onto the underside of the front bar, just to add a bit of pizzaz.

I see.
Do you think there would be any legal issues with modifiying the reinforcement bar?
Paying $500 for a reinforcement bar is not cool.

cheers.

If you can wait around long enough, I will be removing my CS front bumper support to fit a FMIC. Ill let go of it for $100 if your interested.

I was going to sell the entire front end off my car, but thought against it. Ill get it fixed instead.

What difference does the bumper support make?
is the actual bumper still fittable without it?

thanks.

you actually don't even need the support to fit the bumper. But without it the bumper is very squishy.

Its only a bumper support, in a smash it wouldn't do much in regards to buffering. The ST185 jobbie does a better job at that.

Yo Lance, I don't suppose you have a CS hood to sell Smile

I'm looking around to use one so that a mate can make a mould, but it'll really really mess up the paintwork.

I think the front bar needed something on the top bit (that goes in between the lights) to hold it on as well? Can anyone confirm?

Pfft, if i ahd a GroupA bonnet i wouldn't be lending it out.

BTW Carmate make a fibreglass copy of the bonnet now. Relatively cheap as well.

There is a 2nd support panel that you might need, but again, not needed.

heheh yeah if I had a GroupA bonnet I'd be hesitant to sell. I almost got one for $800 a few weeks ago, but I was beaten to the punch!!! Argh! So I got me a ST205 WTA setup instead... I think it's a fair trade.

You seen Carmate's GroupA bonnet? I can't see it in person to confirm if it's any decent or not, since the pic they have looks dodgy as all hell.

A mate of mine got one for his customer, and reckons the quality is excellent. Ill chase up pics if i can.

Hmm, might be worth it if they're decent... a little less weight at the front end than the original bonnet, to get it that one step closer to a 50/50 ratio...

That and the GroupA makes me feel funny, like when I used to climb the ropes in gym class.
