FREE TIP for owners of xA6x chassis cars. Cambertops... Sat, 19 February 2005 08:17 Go to next message
Fiddling with the suspension of my TA63 today I discovered a very interesting fact. Many persons no doubt wish they could find a pair of cambertops for their faithful celica variant and the solution as it turns out is blindingly simple.
An S13/14/15 cambertop is in fact ALMOST perfect for direct fit to these cars. If you refer to the picture I have provided you will see that it will require no more then a millimetre or so removed from the inside of the original holes and the tops will slide in like they were meant to be there.

I wont be doing this because simply, I already have cusco tops so its not required. This is just some helpful info for those who choose to take advantage of it.

Good thing about this also is that S13 strut bars would fit without too much hassle.

Thanks for the tip!

Here's another one: I have been told S13 rear shocks will fit IRS xA6xs with minimal mods. IIRC, Apparently all that is needed is a metal spacer (ring) for the lower bushing. The lower spring hat doesn't have to be removed, but may look funny.

I figure this is a more similar application than other rear dampers from other cars that will fit... if anyhting, the rear of an S13 would probably be heavier. This opens up a lot of option for rear shocks for us.

JZX81 strut tops fit nicely on an MA61, so should fit on an RA23/28 as well.

Pity I can't see the pic (banned site at work - so can you email me the pic directly to michael.bachmann@gm.com ), but thanks for the tip John. Great service from another forum sponsor.

Will keep an eye open on the website for some.

On a side note, any answer on measuring the forgies accurately ?

Cheers

I got mine from Noltec. But also had to drill the holes out 1mm each or so.. So my guess is they are also S13 items.

Would this be able to be used on an RT142 corona. i have been killing myself trying to get some more neg camber on the front. i even got some Ra65 struts and they didn't do anything. Any ideas. Not trying to take over the thread, it's very helpful advice.

cheers

so are you saying S13 adjustable camber tops will bolt onto the end of a RA28 strut and then into the mounting holes at the top ? with a little bit of mods? what mods?

cheap mod: fit 10mm drill to electric drill, with the side of the drill flog-out the three mounting holes at the top of the strut tower - on the inner sides only. stop rooting the drill when the camber top bolts fit into the newly-enlarged holes.

expensive od: firmly mount drill or drill-press above strut tower, accurately mill-out the inner faces of the mount holes to match the s13 cambertop.

followup - you may have changed the upper mounting height of the strut, you have definately replaced the rubber-isolation bugger with a solid or nolathene-encased rose-joint (like soarer21's pic) so you probably need to get this legal and/or engineered ... and while you're spending money on a new or modified strut insert, you may as well look at better/different springs.

Quick question, will these strut tops increase the ride height, ie push the top of the srut down?

they wont work on a ma61 tried it about 8 months ago Sad the reason why is because the ma61 strut holes are drilled on different angles same distance apart just the angles.
