self serve wreckers (abc wreckers) and grab one,
phone first to see when they close

Why is having vac advance working urgent?
Car will still run fine without it... itll just chew a bit more petrol.
Only time i could see it really being needed is for a long trip.

it's chewing through fuel like there's no tomorrow, and it's running really rough... when you advance the timing a touch, it runs rough under low load, when you retart the timing it runs rough under load... running advance timing means your foot is further down, thus more fuel... if i have vacuum advance then i won't chew som much fuel, or rather i'll get performance for the fuel i'm using, it won't just go straight out the exhaust

As a dodgy fix you could try sealing your current one by spreading a thin layer of RTV silicon on each side of the diaphram using your finger.

tried a few wreckers, checked the vacuum advance myself... funny story, sailsbury wreckers, rang them up on the phone, the said yeah, we got one with working vacuum advance, so i went down there, and they handed me one, and i took one look at it... and said... what about one with working VA... he said "whats wrong with it?" i said "it's BENT!" the diaphragm was bent all arse about... lol... they didn't have any others in their little stash either...
anyone recommend any GOOD wreckers in brisbanes south?

heh... yeah, been there done that, yellow pages don't really indicate rip off merchants though.. that's why i asked here, i checked out sailsbury, they're useless as tits on a bull, dad used to work around from the sumner park guys, they had nothing either, and i've heard bad things about ABC, but i haven't checked it for myself... i'll check them out tomorrow maybe... if i have time, gonna test a few other things first...
