First of all, do you have the return line from the fuel rail going back to the surge tank, or main fuel tank? This will determine what flow rate you need.

Yeah thats the pump i heard Mr Merve talking about, he's used it in all of his conversions and its been great. Maybe ask him or i will cause i might put a surge tank in my new supra with one of those lift pumps.
The bluebird pumps he was talking about i'm pretty sure is a low pressure pump but it can pull fuel through whereas most high pressure pumps cannot scavenge. So its perfect to put out of the tank, and pull fuel up from the tank.
EFI ones need fuel right there supplied to them but there are some exceptions.

I just went to my local wrecker & asked for a low pressure electric fuel pump. The first one shat itself after a couple years but the next one looked a fair bit newer.
Both pumps were small square "Carter" pumps, cost about $20.

You could an old Mazda electric fuel pump....usually in the left rear guard. Shouldn't set you back more than $10

I originally used a "Facet" fuel pump - bloody noisy thing, couldnt stand it so I changed it.(bought it from a performance workshop)
Was at the wreckers yesterday looking for a replacement and I found these:
1. bluebird series 2 (has the updated L20 engine it) from around 1983 - pump is quite large, mounted under floor above the axel.
2. Mazda pump - looked exactly the same as my old facet pump so I didnt buy it. I got the guy to test it for me and it didnt sound anywhere near as noisy as the facet but I wanted to try something different.
3. subaru 4wd wagon from the early 80's, mounted in engine bay - was very easy to remove - its not to bad - Its what I used and so far no probs.

Go the big arse Holley Blue (or is it the holley red? one of them!) - plenty of flow if nothing else

Yeah, holley blue flows more than red, but make sure that you mount it on good quality rubber mounts, they are noisy as hell without decent damping! I ditched mine cause it drove me crazy...

Chrisss,
What engine, and other pump is your Suby pump feeding?
Just wondering if the Suby pump would have enough flow for the 1GGTE if my return line went into the surge tank.

Ok guys,
Im still looking for a lift pump, and have found one from Pierburg, but cant get ANY specs from it. Except that its 3.5 - 5 psi. Its from 'super cheap' and it looks pretty damn small. Costs around $90.
Anyone know what its like? How do i know what flowrate i will need to fill my surge tank? (1.7L) My engine return will also go back thru the surge setup.
Any help is appreciated!

Try motorsport connections. they have carter lift pumps, the difference though is they are a diphram type, no ticking. They are in seven hills behind the burger king off the end of the m2. around $130-

to keep the surge tank full?? return line from rail goes to surge tank??
think about it for a bit.
to keep it full you need to replace what leaves the surge tank. how does the fuel leave?
by the injectors.
what rate does the fuel leave?
depends on what size injectors you have, but more importantly, how long you are at WOT.
the max fuel you will use is the max flow rate of your injectors, so maybe 1.2-1.5L/min. maybe have the pump flow maybe 10-20% more to keep enough fuel for the high pressure pump to kep pressure there.
the other thing is. if your lift pump does 1.5L a minute, and your surge tank is 1.5L in size, and your injectors are injecting at 1.5L/min at maximum rate, it will take you at least two minutes at MAXIMUM THROTTLE to empty the surge tank... so you have much more than the necesary fuel reserve...
heck, you could even run a 0.5L/min pump, and still have 1 min of full throttle!!! and enough time to fill the surge tank at the next couple of lights
