How much is a 5mge worth ?

Hey my mate just threw a 5mge in his hilux and is after a spare motor to do up.
I have searched and found that people can't sell them or give them away for free.
I'm not even that sure it's a 5m it could be another supra motor.
But this is just a guess.
It doesn't have anything on the timing gear case.
I know it's a stupid question but i can't find the info i need

i know they are not in high demand but he doesn't have a spare car to drive around while the motor is out of his hilux.

Buy mod i meant "clean up" and water proof it
cuz the one he has looks like shit.
it needs paint and chrome and silicone and little things like that.
He is also looking at a new oil system to keep it lubed up at the extreme angles it see's.
he isn't looking for truckloads of power just a spruce it up and keep it reliable

FWIW, I advertised my (good condition) 5ME with autobox for $400, looking for a quick sale. I was litterally overwhelmed by the number of people calling (most intimating that they regarded that as a 'bargain price'!). An engine affectionately known as The Boat Anchor. Go figure. 
That whorey old addage 'its worth what the biggest sucker is willing to pay' is probably quite apt here.

my 5m-e was lifted out of a ma61 all oily and sad by the intake pipe bolts, I reco'ed the head and its still runing about 5 years later it cost me the petrol to go and pick it up!

I have a 5MGE here that is complete (by that i mean motor only) which anyone can have for $50... all it needs is new lifters. i pulled it out of my ma61 when i did the 1JZGTE swap. all its doin now is taking up space. But i'm in Melb so doesn't really help u.. Good luck
