AE86 Clutch slave cylinder leak - what are the signs?

Getting a RWC done a place where they make shit up thats wrong with your car - should have let them know I wouldn't be taken for a ride...
Anyway, aparently my clutch slave cylinder (the one on the gearbox right...) is leaking. There was a dizzy leak which I have already fixed, so being directly under that I'm sure that there was probably oil (and not brake fluid) hanging off the slave cylinder.
Is there some really obvious way of telling if it is leaking? Like you pull off the boot and fluid jumps out or something? Or do you just have to clean it and wait for fluid to drip out.
I already have the part, just can't be bothered bleeding clutch by myself.
Thanks guys.

feel your finger around the inside of the boot and if there is clutch fluid there then its leaking. If oil has leaked onto it then clean it and monitor.
Your dizzy is directly above the clutch slave? Do you have a 20V or something?

ok, not centimetres away or anything - but if oil were to drizzle down motor - some of it would end up on the clucth slave.
It is a 4ac - i really don't want to replace anything on the engine as it won't be in the car too long.
Thanks for you help... I'll check in the boot now (Just cleaned everything up).

Ahhtt! fluid almost got me in the head when I peeled back the boot. So they only really shafted me on the rear brakes (shoes had 4mm, minimum is 1mm and new shoes I installed were 5mm).
Thanks again.

Ok, so I replaced the slave cylinder. For some reason I screwed up the bleeding process (i think because I didn't have the end of the hose in fluid in the jar end - just thinking about it). Anyway, my weekend (mon tues) is almost over so I just drove it to the mechanics to get the rest of the work done for rwc.
Luckily I had training for driving a car with no clutch from my civic days (cable clutch would break every now and then).
Once again, thanks for the speedy help. I will pay up as soon as I recover from buying this car.
Cheers.

you nob, i told you bleeding a clutch was easy
i'd give you a hand tonight, but i gotta watch some movie.
oh, and you took it back to the mech anyway, wonder what he will charge you to bleed the clutch.
on a side note for interested parties, once my clutch slave poison popped out of the cylinder, shot fluid all over the ground. let this be a lesson in adjusting the freeplay of your clutch (pretty sure that was what broke the pressure plate of that clutch too)

dude bleeding clutch system is easy,
just crack the bleed nipple let it run out, as u see the reservouir get lower just keep filling it up. do that for the whole bottle of brake fluid and should be able to get rid of any air in there

It got to the point where i wasn't removing air from the system, i was trying to fluid in it... it seemed to be sucking back instead of coming out. Whatever, I didn't do it right - I was in a real hurry cos I borrored a friend who had to go to work and I said it would only take 5 mins... well it should have.
whos the nob? - your car doesn't even run. How is that going... please tell me you are going to have a look at it on the weekend.

I was being really careful to only have valve open while the clutch monkey was pushing - was working at first then went downhill. Doesn't matter now - I have left the car in the trusted hands of my local mechanic.
who i don't trust very much.

clutch slaves will just about bleed/purge the air by themselves.
just open the valve and any air will come out in a little while.
air WILL NOT try and enter it while it is draining the reservoir.
it is unlikely that the clutch master cylinder is in good condition if the slave is leaking, and even if it is OK right now, it probably won't be in a short time.
