removing the sump Wed, 23 February 2005 01:15 Go to next message
I have taken off all the bolts but still cant manage to pull the thing off. It appears to be firmly stuck on by the gasket sealant. Any tips on how to get the thing off or get rid of the sealant. I have already tried hitting the side of the sump with a seft hammer and that did nothing. Sump is on a 4ac by the way.

Also two of the bolts were actualy nuts. So there is still two threads comming out of the block i think and through the sump. Should thses be there or is something farked.

Screwdriver is the key.

Try and use it on the cast iron parts, not the alloy parts too.

Try and use it on the cast iron parts, not the alloy parts too.

This will minimise fuckups.

Just be careful, don't rush it.

Use a chisel if youve got one... itll help reduce damage.

i cant get shit inbetween the mating surfaces. Is there any chemicals or solvents or anything that would losen it. This is the first time it has been removed in 16 years so is tight as fark.

Or should i just go hard with a chisel and try to fix up the flanges if they get farked. But i still cant even get anything between the two surfaces.

Yeah just get the thing off and then fix it up afterwards - you can always beat the things back into shape on a flat surface later. Umm - yeah make sure that you pry near the cast iron parts, there is probably aluminium at the pulley/gearbox ends of the block and you don't want to screw it up so if it's FWD pry the N-S edges, and if it's RWD pry the E-W edges.
