I have enqured about superlights and they make 16 inch to sute a ta22 thought they are 7 inches wide, is possible to fit this wider wheel on a celica and will there be any negatives on handling and everthing else.
Thanks alot.

Its all about what offset you get them made to. Im not sure about 22's but 15x7s with 205s fit in the front of my ra28 nice. and 8"s fit in the back with 225 so id assume you'd be able to get close to this with a 22. Can anyone clarify?
If there for a ta22 you may as well get them made to fit perfectly in the guards.. Is the car lowered/slammed? if so factor this in when measuring the space in the wheel arch.
as far as handling, the wider the tread the more of it gripping the road so it cant be a bad thing.. it'l just feel solid on the road and be a little stiffer on the steering components..
My car had 15x6s all round then i went to 15x7&15x8 with better rubber and it has never felt better into corners... gets a bit more traction all round too... not to mention pulling up in a hurry..
hope this helps

205's fit nicely on an RA23/28 and will provide more than enough grip. The TA22 has slightly less guard clearance but if you roll the guards it shouldn't be a problem. As stated it's all about offset.

The front brakes are ra40 struts does this change anything, alos i am fitting adjustable strut top and they have there own records at performance wheels and they make the offset to what there books say so i guess whatever they are standard.
Heavy duty lowerd springs with koni no were near slammed.

if they make the offset to fit a TA22 and you keep the overall diameter of the tyres the same it shoule be alright using 7" wheels. I've seen it on many 22's with no problems.
I'm using 15x7" and I have scraping (when bottom out) and rubbing at rear wheel arch on full lock - This is due entirely to the incorrect offset of my wheels.
Having a 16" diammeter ain't an issue, as long as you reduce the profile enough to suit.
You might want to check the track you have now compared to stock at the front due to the RA40 brakes (if its a total strut change). A wider track might mean you'll need a deeper offset wheel on the front than normal to fit the wheels under stock guards.
Cheers.
ps. personally I don't think 16" superlights will suit the TA22 if in the silver color.

T apluss: What is the track, what is the standard track and what am i looking for in the new track???
Also what couler or other wheels do you think would suite, i wish to have 16 inch wheels and superlites are one wheel i think would suite it without going to ricie, they still sorta look oldshool when big.
