LOL... i expected as much, and i agree!
but... it's what he wants, and i cant talk him out of it. i've tried.
so then.
my next question, dare i ask
what auto will fit in it and handle the power?
regardless of the obvious loss that will occur.

The reason Toyota gearboxes are used in Holdens etc. is because they're a cheap, common gearbox that was an improvement over the old school 3-speed manual offerings, and they had a removable bellhousing that allowed places like Dellows to cast up replacements, allowing them to fit such horrid engines as the Red motor. A Toyota 2T does NOT have the same bolt pattern as a buick... And the THM700 box doesn't have a removable bellhousing
If he wants an auto TA22, then why not just buy an auto TA22?

he still wants the power that a 2tg or more has got...
a 2t isn't enough.
i understand the difficulty of what i'm asking, not the done thing by an stretch.
more just wanting to know if it can be done, as it's what he wants etc..
thanks for the info though.
i get the opportunity to tell him to suck it up and drive a manual

the LT series ta22 came with 3 speed auto, 4 speed manual and 5 speed manual...
the ST, rarer, came with 4 speed manual or 5 speed manual,
and the uuber rare fooly schmick GT model came with only 5 speed manual, because its the best
good luck in finding one though :/

rob_RA40: ah, no shit... i know this, if you read the post properly you'll know that i and my mate, (one with the "fat head") are fully aware there is an auto for it, infact i got one. HOWEVER... it will not handle much powerwise. so there is no point using it.
Major Clod: but i doubt it could handle the power a 2tg gives out, mine is stuffed and i only had a 2t on it.
my main question at the moment is, will a supra auto box, bolt up. it had an engine with more power and a car with more weight and is not as old.. i belive that it would handle a 2tg with ease.
so will it fit?
who has one?

What makes you think the TA22 factory auto wont handle the powar? With a decent kit though it it will be fine. Might cost you about $300 for new filter, bands and labour but all will be good.

As long as the 2T-G is atmo, it won't present any problems to a stock 2T auto in good condition. Even if the 2T-G is worked it won't have any more torque than a stock 2T. We're talking about a teeny-tiny 1.6L engine; shoving a big heavy power-sapping THM700 behind it makes about as much sense as... something that doesn't make any sense.

....yeah, a Porsche-patented steel-case gearbox.. plus two-piece tailshaft and a 7.5inch F-series 2pinion LSD....
JDM GT's are the ducks nuts!
But, getting back to your dilema, Cool1 & Norbie are right. A standard TA22 auto shouldn't have any issues behind a 2TG engine.

mrshin, Major Clod, EldarO, Cool1, Norbie, river:
thanks for you info, i think i will advise that if he still wants an auto, to go with the original auto, and just get a kit put through it as cool1 had mentioned. probably the best idea, i just needed to know what other possibility's were available. thanks guys, much appreciated.

go waste someone else's time.
