Re: W58 shifter position in AE86

Of the four positions available, I found the most forward one (RA65 etc) to be the best, it sat 1" further forward than the T50 stick, but has a fair rearwards angle on the actual shifter, so falls to hand nicely. It "just" clears the front of the shifter hole without any cutting.
The next position back would be absolutely perfect, but I couldn't find one over a 6 month period. Had two freighted to me that were both wrong.
The second from the back position (GA/MA70) can be fitted, but requires about 15mm to be cut from the hole in the floor, and the shifter to be straightened, otherwise it feels too close to the handbrake.
Don't even consider the furthest back position
What are you using for a gearbox crossmember?
Cheers
Phil

Rex's W comes from a 1GG(T or Z)E of some description. So its likely to be the second from the rear. It looks as if it wil require 15mm cut from the tunnel.
So, if changing to the MA61 ness shifter, Rex will require.
The Shifter itself and carrier section along with the selector shaft?
Checked the FAQ thread but it was somewhat unclear...

Rex will have GA70, or 2nd most rear.
Will that clear the hole in your tunnel

The shifter positioner (the bit the shifter bolts to) and the bit that bolts to the selector shaft are the only things that differ.
While you have the rear of the box off, make sure the speedo drive gear is the correct one. (it comes in 10 and 11 teeth)

I'm sure I have the 20inch(/me looks down ) and I have no problem with clearances. I just want to get the shifter further back for comfort.

Hmmm, the 20inch is the unknown shifter, what car was the gearbox from?

LX80's are Cressidas/MarkII's with 2L-T motors.
So I doubt the motor sits back further than a 7M would.
LY60 is a hiace type car? van?
Sounds about right, mid 80's.

Y'know Cool. That sounds like a great idea. Rex's is the second from the right.
If this one will suit you and you'd like to swap then....
HOORAH!!!
PM Rex and we'll go from there.
