it's actually called rugby league, the other variation is rugby union, the only reason they are called "football, footy" etc. is because of Australian laziness over the years i imagine, with Aussies cutting everything short, nicknames etc. lol. 
i know the real game of "football" is soccer, but hey there is a few similarities between the games.
anyway league is an awesome game, and it'll always be known as footy, so you cant change that lol.
