Hi everyone. I just registered here and I just bought a 77 Celica RA29 and its in great condition, but the engine needs replacing. I don't know Celicas, but I do know T-18s (TE72).
What I'm saying is that its got a piston where its not supposed to be...coming out the side of the block.
Over here in the States we have a few different 22R type motors, but not the kind I have in my Celica.
I have a 21R-U and I was wondering if I could swap the 21R-U head with a regular American 22R block.
I was referred here for that specific question.
If the 21R-U head to 22R block doesn't work, would anyone have any other suggestions? Besides just throwing a whole 22R motor in it.
If I can't do much with the swap and costs a lot, I'd consider the whole 22R, but I was wanting to know the/some possibilities.
Thanks in advance.
Jtek.

Nobody knows? I find that hard to believe.
Just a question that I don't know and are asking the best.
I was told this place was the best for Celica questions.
Can I fit 21R-U head on 22R block?
So far Yes has more votes than no.
Can't anyone help me?

Unfortunately for you (but fortunately for us) we have an abundance of more performance oriented toyota motors over here, and the ability to perform all sorts of engine swaps.
Therefor the only thing most people here would be able to tell you about 21R-Us & 22Rs etc is how to pull them out & replace them with twin turbo sixes (1G-GTEs) and the like.
If there's anyway you can get your hands on a better engine, something with twin cams & multi valve & a turbo or two, chuck it in. You can usually get better results for less moolah.
