Yian's MA61 (56k warning)
|

|
Hey all,
I've had this car for 4 about years now, and have been a part of this forum for the last 7 months or so. I thought that I might as well post some pics of my baby up, and maybe get some feedback.
Some might know, I did the conversion to a 7MGTE approximately 6 months ago (thanks to some info provided on this forum and others). The whole conversion was done in my mates backyard and suprisingly, it turned out pretty tidy. Wiring was done by myself, with shared workload being done on the engine.
When we got the engine it was in a pretty sad state. The previous owner had taken to running the Soarer on water, hence most of the water galleries had rust in them. Word of caution, don't use compressed air to blow it out unless you have some form of breathing apparatus. The cloud of 'orange' that came out was like mustard gas!! We changed all the seals on the engine, torqued the head down to what most people would specify it (76ish?).
I am still using the stock 5ME flywheel mated to a PBR custom made 4 puck sprung brass button clutch. So far its held up after about 5 months of abuse. It's a slight bitch to drive during peak hour, but I have gotten my hands on a 7MGTE flywheel and will be getting an organic clutch as soon as money allows.
Boost is wound up to around 9psi. Dyno'ed it at 152rwkw. Have got a wanky blow-off valve fitted as the factory one was rooted. Again, plumb-back in on the agenda once more funding is available.
Err... this is getting long, so I'll just post some pictures and any comments would be great
Here are some pics of the engine bay. And the engine of course

Nice, but a bit low for my liking.
Engine bay looks the same as mine
Also, you've posted half those pics twice.

Ah haha yeah, "told you so". It takes a couple of weeks to get used to. After that though, you'll start forming a list of stuff you'll be wanting to do to make it quicker.
And yes, the car is lowered. It's got King Lows on each corner with Pedders shocks. Its probably not something I'd recommend to other MA61 owners as it is too low and you'll have to do the embarassing taking-speedhumps-at-45-degree-angles-fully-sik-br o kinda thing. It also causes the rear to bounce a fair bit under full throttle. It'd hit the bump stops and bounce up and lose a bit of traction, and crouch again when it gets traction, and hits the bump stop again etc... Definitely standard height springs soon and decent shocks too. Maybe even some coilovers for the front, who knows eh?
On another note, does anybody know where I can get my hands on a new weathershield thing-ama-bob that goes around the front windshield? The black thing that goes over the metal bit (if you know what I am talking about).
Here's a photo of what I mean.
If anyone knows where to get some, I'd love to know as mine are slowly falling off to pieces and its making the car look real ugly.
Thanks.

lol, yian, ive already got a list:
boost controller
aftermarket ecu
bigger intercooler
bigger injectors...
that will do for a while for me...
but my biggest problem now is working out whether to swap the engine or not... the red supra is in a lot better condition than i thought...
but good to see your car has had a wash, looks shmick as shmick

Ah you're having a dilemma now arent ya? Keep both One for daily driver, the other for fun weekends.
Are you going to get a lexus AFM with those injectors? Allan was telling me that if you run the lexus AFM, your boost cut goes from 11.5psi to around 25ish? or something like that.
Now that would seriously be fun eh?

well, one of the cars will probably be kept for my sister, but it's still something i need to decide
but i was thinking, with an aftermarket ecu it will be changed to MAP instead of AFM, so i wouldn't need one...
however, the lexus AFM/440 injectors could be something good to do before the ecu...
25psi would be hella fun

Eh? If I were to get rims, it'd be Simmons b45 or OM styled ones. Only problem with them though, their expensive heh. On Coles wages and studying full time? I don't think so. Not or the time being anyways.
But it'll look good with nice rims eh?

WTF... why is my supra in your driveway for !!!! lol Yian.. mine is the same colour... BUT i have Bridgestone eager tyres so i got the white writing... Dude its fucking low as and u need it raised its WAY to low u r not the Ghetto with Tupac remember. Love the 7M i should have one of them one of these days. But the fuckwit that owned the car before me put hte number plate on the black strip at the front so i am thinking i might put it down lower!!
Its a really nice car.. but i spose i don't really have to specially say to u nice car cause mine is virtually the same exterior!!

Yeah, will be raising the car back to standard height as soon as funds permit. I keep scraping bits under my car and it looks stupid when I have to take every single speedhump so slowly.

Yeahhhhh. Now my wheels are complete without 1 centre cap missing. Got it for a grand total of $8.
I wonder what I can do to the car now? Apart from raising it, ARP studs, and metal gasket. Hrmmm... bigger turbo? It seems slower now that it was when I first did the conversion.

Rykey? hehehe crykey mate. Drive back was pretty uneventful. Went up to the tangled maze... spent like an hour in there coz we got lost =p played a couple of games of minigolf and then fucked off home. Didn't end up going sovereign hill coz 1. it was expensive hehe 2. Her family is going there next month so she's saving it for then (saves me the money too eh?).

but yes, was good to put names to faces. and thanks for the kudos on my supras.... lol, its weird, i forget i have two supras at age 20

On the last photo, your car looks sooooo low compared to the other MA61s the brown MA61 has got low profile Celica tyres on the front... You should photoshop your car and make it a little higher

Great to see some good pics of your car Yen. Don't listen to all these people!! It looks fkn sweet lowered!! Maybe raise it a little bit to stop havving to do the go-over-speedhumps-at-a-45degree-angle-fooly-sik-b ro thing , but no more than that! seriously, chuck some 15x8 rims on it or something and it will look fkn shmick

I was thinking more on the lines of 16 x 8s. With teh massive dish. Like with something with the region of 0 to +5 offset. I just need to find out whether they will fit under the flares or not. If they do, damnn... now that would look shmick
