3tgte or 2t/3t

ok im having a bit of a dillemma....(>spelling? )
i have an unassembled 2tg with real aggressive cams, have the 3t crank and so forth, i bought 89mm forged pistons (but they wont fit in the block safely so i cant use them) have extractors and was GOING to get it all close to blueprinted....so i was going to do nearly all mods possible to an NA car to make it fast.
unforunately i realised i wasted quite a bit of money spending a lot of money on things that made it go only a little bit faster. so im thinking, just thinking now, of cutting those losses, selling the parts, and buying a 3tgte. i can get a complete one for $1300 and that is completely stock. i was wondering, how fast are they, say quatre mile times stock? and what type of money and what would i be doing for some reasonably priced mods?(and how difficult are they?)
ps. tried using the search function to answer this but the results were too varied
thanks for the help

i ran 14.1
and i fucked it put it in 5 instead of 3 with 175 stockies and shit load of wheelspin
no boost no cooler, only exhaust and cold air
this is in a t18 theyre like 980kgs
im guessin should be in high 13s depends wat its in
3tgte definally opens tha door to more power mods where as there not much more to do with tha 2t/3t
definally bang for your buck

im spewin i took the 2tg/3t route over turbo, theres just no potenital left in that engine.
im wishing i went with a 4agze over a 3tgte though. as its basically just a better engine, easier to get power from and already has ceramic coated forgies
i guess it depends what you want, but if you do split your parts ide be interested in those cams to keep me a bit happier for a while.

yeah ill let you know man...
the 4agze..is that hard to mount in a ta22? and how much do they usually sell for?
what base mods would you do to a 3tgte to start with, without going extreme...im thinking ecu, intercooler, injectors....
cheers

being a T series engine in there now, i imagine it would be the same swop as for the t-18
all you do is get a sprinter g/b and xmember, then its all bolt in AFAIK
you'de wanna talk to yellorolla or turbora28 about modding up the 3tgte

all fairly easy mods.

riceburna73 u should be deep in tha 13s
ive got a 1g cooler, its a decent size for basic mods. And theyre common and fairly cheap.
first mods id go would be cooler and exhaust
then turbo, ecu, fuel pump/injectors.
forgies depending on turbo but would be recomended

you can get a hybrid copy for $300, they arent the most efficient cooler on the market, but goddamn they are cheap as chips and they are big, good for 400rwkw

Not really on topic but,
your old 3tc can hold about 10psi boost and is easy peasy to fit the 3tgteu turbo manifold onto. I'm slowly going about this project. I'm actually working with the 3TEU which is heaps beter being EFI. I will post a little story of how I did it when it's done, if anybody is intersted. The main thing is to replace the con rod bolts with ARP numbers. U need a cheep fuel ECU as well.

Jesse,
What a load of Crap ! Your 2T/3T hybrids performance is a direct reflection on the choice of parts and ability of the people who built it ! Don't blame an engine package for human error. 2TG/3T Hybrid's have been making upwards of 200fwhp since the 80's !
As for the 4AGZE v's 3TGTE comments once again this is pure opinion and depends greatly on have you define a better engine and of course what you want from it. They both offer allot of potential and the 4AGZE is of course a much newer design with a twice the valves responds well to mods.
A 4AGZE is NOT a BOLT in swap from a T series engine !
The T series engines are old and don't suffer stuidity. You make a mistake building one they will let you know ! (As will most engines)
Heres some perspective for you.
Dyno day 7 - Jason Myers KE-20 3T-GTE 190.5 - Class Winner
Thats 190 rwkw from a basically STOCK 3T-GTE with the ONLY internal change being forged pistins. Just a CT26 and custom inlet and exhaust manifolds !

Not to mention the T series pushrod engines have been running 7 and 8 second 1/4's for a long time in Puerto Rico and the US. Don't see any 4A's in that territory.
There are advantages and disadvantages with all motors, try putting a decent gearbox on a 4A and you will find you could pay for the forgies for your 3T.

listen, can anyone give me comprehensive clarification on this issue: i am under the impression from my searches of the conversion, that i will need to upgrade the fuel lines and fuel tank when i bolt a 3tgte into my ta22. is this correct? And if so, how hard are parts to source and how much would i be looking at for that bit alone?
additionally, is there any other hidden things i will need to consider/alter apart from issues with engine mounts?
should i be keeping any parts from my 2t/3t that may be compatible with the 3tgte? ie. can i use the flywheel i had bolted on to the 2t/3t?
thanks very much for the help

You don't need to run bigger fuel lines (how much power are you trying to make?)
Engine mounts should not present an issue.
You can use the same flywheel - not necessarily recommended because of the smaller clutch face.

what can i grab the injectors off to upgrade from the standard 3tgte ones?
also, i got given some advice that a well tuned standard ecu is better than an aftermarket one...which sounds a bit iffy to me :s....i thought the tuning would be nowhere near as accurate...
from reading old threads, a CT26 from a 3S-GTE seems like the best/most feasible turbo upgrade.
next question is: having done all this, how high is the need to then upgrade to forged pistons?
thanks for any help

When really wanting to lean on a 3T GTE I would recommend forged pistons straight after one of your factory ones carks it.
Injectors - cheap solution go for Mazda 550cc series IV (low impedance same as factory Tojo) they are horrible things though. Or 440cc (7M GTE I think).
Factory ECU is fun for a while, but to state that it is better than aftermarket is pure fantasy. With your aftermarket choice being able to tailor an ignition curve independent of the factory distributor, you are in front.
I recommend the CT26 from the 7M GTE with the steel turbine wheel (for added piece of mind) @ around 20 psi you are starting to have some fun.

i was just wondering, how appropriate is a t50 for a 3tgte? i have a w55 and i think ive sourced a bellhousing to hook it up...i was wondering, is it needed? and also, does the shifter and forth end up in the same position? is there any hassle/fabrication involved?

This document neither confirms or denies any shifter fit issues. I've never heard of any problems encountered with shifter fit in this application.
You could try measuring the two transmissions from bellhousing face to shifter location; if you don't physically have the W-T bellhousing get the seller to measure it and measure the length of the W55 core seperately.
As for fitting it, it seems an automatic TA22 crossmember is a good place to start. The auto tailshaft will fit the standard differential and W55 output shaft.
P.S. I found the adjustable lateral rod in the boot of my Corolla. Sorry about that - let me know when next you might be in town. Until then it's not a major major issue to run without it.

you dont happen to have an automatic crossmember handy do you? what else would i need to make it fit?
yeah ill just grab the rod when i can.
is there much of a problem in running the t50 with the 3tgte? ie. do you have to be putting them under A LOT of stress before they blow? because i intend on pushing the car a bit, sometimes at least...

im currently very very interested in doing this my self in a te71 gt apex coupe but theres a few things im unsure of...
ive heard that there are different head with different squish zones that will fit. which heads are these, because dont the pistons need to be flycut for valve reliefs. ive got a 2tgeu here at home its got the 888-263 head. the dog of the heads, the last one to come out and emission controled off its tits.
but if i dont need to have the pistons fly cut then thats great news for me cos its money in the wallet that can go to other mods.

so you want to make a motor with a 2tg head and have a 3t crank and 3t pistons yeah? if you do then you will definately have to get the piston valve reliefs fly cut.
if you are interested i think i already have a set of 3t pistons fly cut...

Sorry, no auto crossmember. I'll keep an eye out and grab one from the wrecker if I see one.
Longevity of the T50? Probably have a bit to do with the original condition of the box and the sympathy with which you drive it. Driving fast doesn't necessarily mean needing to punish the hardware.
