KE35 front brake upgrade?
|

we are coming to the final stages of my mates conversion...
'75 KE35 Corolla Coupe with a 13B Bridgeport Rotary
need to replace the front brakes (obviously) and not sure what the best option would be... we don't have much experience with upgrading brakes so any help you guys could offer would be very much appreciated.
can you please make some suggestions... taking into account what would be the easiest and cheapest options etc.
Thanks in advance.

There is plenty of info on this forum about it.. Do a search.
I managed to find the info I needed, when I needed it, and what I couldn't find I posted for others.
It might've been under KE50/55/5x, can't remember.

funny enough I'm planing on doing a similar thing. well it was gonna have a rotor but way to much fu$king around for me. decided to stick it in the ke-20 race car.
anyway if anyone has suggestions on this I would like to hear too. as my ke-35 is soon to become a rally car with a 2 litre 3tg.
I'd also like to hear of rear end upgrades, I want to put discs on the rear, at the moment I have a ta-22 rear end under there which fits fine, actually was only half an inch bigger than standard. so if anyone has done a disc conversion to a ta-22 it'll probably fit under the ke-35 too.
so sorry I can't help, at the moment my only ideas are twin spot callipers with a bigger disc rotor. oh and vented too.
all depends on size wheels ya gonna run as well.

R31 Pintara rear discs and calipers, or ST141 Celica discs with AE82/92/101 calipers.
These are your friends.
As for the fronts, a lot of lower control arms bolt in with some slight modification and therefore will be able to use big brakes. Look at the hilux for starters.

thanks very much for the info guys... and I did search the forum before posting the question but was unable to find the info
I have posted on another forum also and the following suggestions have been made:
"i don't think that anything really 'bolts in' BUT..if you grab yourself a pair of JDM AE86 front struts, you should be able to bolt them in, AFAIK they are pretty much right for them..only down side is they are getting a little pricey...but yeh, they are the same as aussie AE86 ones, only a wider caliper to make room for the thicker ventilated rotor.."
"might i suggest RA65/SA63 conrol arms, with complete strut assembly? ie bigger discs than the AE86 etc, and readily avalable at most local wreckers.. give you some nice camber too.."
"ke70 bolt up & are cheap as chips...
corona struts/brakes are another option...better stopping power than the ke70
http://www.garagedori.com/tech/rt132_struts_into_k e35.php
ive heard of the gx60 cressida option but i dont know how much work is involved."
will keep you posted on what we decide to go with and the results... etc

KE70 are same as KE30 but with 12.5mm thick disc vs 10mm. disc is still 218mm.
the KE70 panel van (ont he other hand) has 228mm discs, but are still solids..
think abotu things like camira discs, BMW E30 discs, Honda NSX rear discs (at $300 a pop, they'd wanna be good )
basically ther eare not so many easy upgrades. you need to find things at wrecker and make them fit...

I think the plan so far is to go for some ae 86 front struts wiht disc and calipers to match. or may interchange them for commodore rear callipers.
either way anyone know if ae101/ae112 struts are the same as ae89? if not what's the difference.
also what size is a standard wheel for ae86? or maybe ae101/ae112?

qld light car code of practice :
largest engine upgrade is the replacement engine with
safety upgrade :
toyota corolla ke35 auto/coupe 864kg - (heaviest sedan model)under section LA so
864kg x 3(na engine) = 2592cc max capacity
rotor = capacity x2,
= 1308cc x 2 = 2616cc
have you checked that this will allowed to pass engineering?
