spark plug leads Mon, 04 November 2002 00:25 Go to next message
one of my leads has a gouge mark in the outter coating. I was wonderinf if i could wrap the entire lead in electrical tape and if so would it be ok for now? I'll replace it just not for a few weeks.

Electical tape wont do shit on a spark plug lead! The spark will go straight through it!

i was thinking of using several layers from end to end of the lead... plus the bit taken out the lead isnt worn right down to the core.

You wont need to cover the whole lead! If the leav isn't totally worn down to the core, you might get away with putting a very thick layer of tape over the worn bit! But you'll find if any metal gets neat that worn bit the spark might burn straight through the tape! But give it a go and keep it away from any metal!

Put a length of water hose over it for now. Just cut it down the side and slip it over. Keep it away from really hot bit.

cheers ppl

i took the leads out last night. all 4 leads were groups into one and then fed through a small gap in the throttle linkages and fuel rail... in other words it woulda been better to feed each wire through a seperate hole, which ive done now.

the damaged lead isnt that bad at all.. so i taped it up using thick PVC tape. should be right id say
