I am in the process of making a custom dash for my ke55 and i want to know if newer speedo's would just plug into the existing plug thingy? i was thinking of getting 1 from an 01 to 03 corolla?

I'm pretty sure most Toyota's from about 1990 onwards use electronic speedos (ie, no cable)
At least the RWD's do.
If this is the case, you will need to get the sensor from the side of the gearbox.

Should bolt on as per factory.
I can put a speedo cable from my MA61 onto my A341E trans (from 1uz crown), and it just screws on.
But you are venturing into slightly different territory, but I'd say you'll have more issues with mounting the dash in the car.

all you need to do is get a VDO programmable speedo and a sender for the gearbox end.
you'll never have speedo calibration issues again.
getting a dash from another car is not as easy as you think.
