How accurate is the tare weight on rego papers? Thu, 03 March 2005 04:29 Go to next message
I understand that the tare weight is a deduction from the gross weight of a shipping container (or similar) leaving you with a net weight of the vehicle.

Compared to a weigh bridge, how accurate is the tare figure?

not very in my experience.

about 80 - 100 kg out in both my cases on a weigh bridge vs rego paper weight.

Most weighbridges I have seen are accurate to only +/- 50kg though so not that great either.

I've seen a difference of 500kg (not a typo) on rego papers for a Soarer. 1100kg on the rego papers versus the real 1600kg it actually weighs. Best bet is to get it on a bridge. Last one I had my car on was +/- 5kg accuracy.
