Hi Guys,
I'm trying to do an oil change at the moment, now I know where the oil filter is, but the heat shield is in the way, is the recommended way to do the filter change to remove the heat shield then change filter, or try to work around the filter.
Also sinec the filter is kind of facing down, when I unscrew it is there going to be much residual oil in there? I've let it sit for a little while...

For anyones future reference you can do it just by sliding your arm past the heat shield, easy

If my memory serves me right, i believe the service manual says, remove rear drivers wheel and inner guard, "hello oil filter".
Or you could do it your way?
Cheers

No Oil didn't drain everywhere, amazingly enough. I drained the sump, and let it sit for a half hour, the oil filter was a non-genuine one so it didn't have Toyota's funky oil holding valve thingy, so it was empty when I pulled it off.
Replaced with genuine part this time, so next time I will have to remove rear wheel & guard. I'll have to get me a service manual for my car...
Anyway it's amazing how much better the car runs with fresh oil!

What brand of filter did you have on then? Must oil filters come witha anti-drip valve that stops the oil from leaving the oil filter when the car is turned off. It's better for your engine. The only ones that don't are the $4 home brand ones.

Yeah dude on mine there is a small plastic shield and it takes 2 bolts to take it off! and voila! there it is!
I replaced mine with the Toyota Oil filter and Shell Helix!!
Yeah fresh oil makes a mad difference, for best results do it every 5000 km's!

Yea I'm a big fan of the every 5K Km's. It's cheap to do it yourself too, filter, sump washer plus some decent oil usually works out at $50-60.
