stock 3T-C clutch Sat, 05 March 2005 01:35 Go to next message
i've recently made a few little changes to the t-18 to get some more power out of it, elec ignition, thermo, 4.1 diff ratio.
ever since these changes, under full throttle i think my clutch is JUST slipping, the engine doesnt over rev the gearbox but pretty sure theres a decent power drop there and that BURNING CLUTCH smell after every boot!

what sort of power would the stock 3T clutch usually be good for?
it looked to be in good condition when we put the engine in.

i made the same mistake i put a standard clutch behind a 3tgteu and it didnt put tha power to the ground at all. if its still a 3tc i wouldnt think u would hav a problem, it just might be the clutch is worn enough that wen u boot it, it slips. meaning u need to replace it.

ill giv u a brand new standard 3tc clutch plate, cover and throw bearing for like $30 p.p if ya need it. its just takin up space. or better yet u should go a proper heavy duty clutch for like 200-300 and you should neva hav a problem again.

yeah its not a standard 3t
its the hybrid with a bit of work.
putting down about 55-60rwkw?

3tgte clutch might be the go, cause this engine is only going to get more powerful from here.

No they don't share the same clutch - 3T GTE uses 228mm. Replacement part number for the 3T GTE is R353.

You can fit a 3T flywheel but I am unsure of the compatability with the T50 box.

Just FYI, the clutch plate for a manual crown fits the t50 spline and has a better clamping pressure. Same pressure plate to fit the 3TGTEU flywheel. I use this and it's a good economical compromise for a lightly tuned 3TGTEU.

Also for the 3tc, you can get the clamp pressure increased by replacing the spring with a (holden?) stronger one.
