My Girl Friend avoided accident by Countersteering!!! hehe!! Sat, 05 March 2005 12:53 Go to next message
We were coming back from Deer park after buying my GF a corolla CSI 1992 model.. I was leading the way and she was in her car...

We were merging into the middle lane as the left lane was ending, now there was someone on the middle lane but yeah my girl friend was trying to merge so the middle person gave us a bit of room but barely enough, so she started merging and yeah suddenly the gap had closed up between the middle lane car a lot more than she thought and as a result my girl friend had to swerve left to avoid the car that was too close... They didn't give my girl friend ANY room to merge...

As a result my girl friend had to swerve as not to hit the car on the right, and unfortunately got into a bit of a lost traction situation, I was telling her about the scandinavian flick techniques before, and suprisingly in this situation she used what i told her to make the situation a lot worse.. Once she had turned left to sverve the surface was quite uneven and the car sverved right, and then left onto the grass... she did brilliantly to get out of the situation, In my rear view i could see the car swerve left and then countersteer right so she wouldn't spin out...

This was done at about 60-70kms an hour so I'm really proud of her..
Once i saw her on the grass i turned off the road and make sure she was ok, i've never been more scared in my life.. i thought something really bad had happened.. I've never run faster to her car from where i parked in my life... Lets just say i'm glad shes ok.

She had only driven the car 10 mins and hadn't drove in 1 year since, so she managed quite well hehe...

Interestin story...

Hahaha
nah she used the scandanavian flick basic procedures to get herself out of the situation...

So if the car has turned left and the backs lost traction you would countersteer to balance your car out again, which she did very nicely.. Shes driving better than me Embarassed Embarassed Very Happy

That i can confirm.. Shes amazing and I owe her everything for being such a great girl to me hehehe.. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

A little info that i didn't mention...
Once i saw her swerving i've never been more scared in my life.. and there was a service road to the side of the main road... so being no curb on our side of the road i went OFF our road and onto the sidestreet, but there was a curb going down so yeah i sorta went a bit airborne... All i wanted to do was make sure she was ok.. I was scared shitless coz if i lost her i'd loose EVERYTHING in life for sure Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

your girlfriend did a great job, but dont let her become scared of cars, let alone cars sliding. Encourage her to do an advanced driving couse of defensive driving, ive done it myself. it should help her to be confident behind the wheel.

on a different note, ive met a guy whose girlfriend drives his 400 Hp Cortina better than he does down the quarter mile!!!
