motor did a comparo on the XR6 turbo vs evo VIII vs SS boganmobile. the ss couldn't keep up with either in the corners and is about as technologically advanced as a lump of coal but it still won cos it has more cylinders. GRRRRRRRRR

I don't beleve alot of the stuff some car magazines say about cars. If they don't like a car they'll make it be worse then what it is. (the Toyota Camry is a good example). and cars they love they give awards too (Bomadore etc) they over-rate. I haven't driven any Commodores after the VT but the ones I have driven, I have been dissapointed in. They should just make a magazine saying about the cars features and performance not stupid remarks like " This car has more cylinders although the XR6 turbo can match it's performance. The SS (shitty sprots) wins because it has a V8" etc

I don't mind them talking about the older Holdens, I just hate them talking up Commodores. There nothing special. Toyota's are just so much more better then Commodores!

ACTUALLY it was teh Typhoon F6 vs. HSV Clubby vs. Evo VIII
If you were capable of putting your preconceptions and prejudices aside while reading such comparisons, you'd probably have picked up that they were being rated as CARS TO OWN!
You know; to buy, take home, pay money for, drive everyday, take delivery of . . . . . . The Clubby won coz it's quick enough, but a much better everyday proposition.
Like Motor said:
"The Lancer is pure speed. That it's comparable to the 6Litre Clubsport, FASTER in some ways, is proof that 2-litres, turbo and technology is a titanic combination. It makes no excuses but it is comprimised in equipment and comfort."
and:
"When it comes down to forking out 60 grand for a performance sedan, the HSV Clubsport chalks up a win for the V8."
I think you'd be more interested in Motor's PCOTY issue every year, and maybe BFYB. In this year's PCOTY the Clubby(5th) was thumped by: Mercedes Benz C55 AMG (4th), Suby WRX STi (3rd), Mitsu Lancer EVO VIII (2nd), and the New Porsche 911S (1st)
does that make you happier?
Oh - I get EVO and Motor, occasionally Autosport.
p.s. Go for a test drive in a Clubsport, THEN come back and explain to me why you think anything with pushrods is automatically crap..

hey! im no expert, i was just peeved at the way they knocked the evo back on cabin comfort(because of the left hand indicator) and slow around town driving(its a performance car dammit), fair enough people buying these cars would like to know how they rate in all areas, but they should at least have less weighting than the performance tests or something as the cars are purpose built speed machines. it seemed unfair that the evo should lose after kicking the commos arse or matching it in all other areas, just because of the placement of the indicator stalk and the fact it comes on boost late, really, how much worse could its cabin be?.
yes i am very narrow minded but so are the people who surround me who obsess over the 'cant beat cubes" mentality. yes the pushrod mammoth makes a shed load of power(needs nearly six litres to do it) no i have never driven one and i'm sure it's exhilirating to drive. but the fact is that the evo is better...in my books. as for the PCOTY test, im surprised it got a mention
ps. motor being an australian magazine(as far as i know) would benefit from talking up the holdens as it would have a greater target audience. we are the land of the bogans after all.

I'm surprised My rant only drew one response!
They actually said that when the EVO didn't match the Clubby, it had it beat - so if YOU had $60k to drop on one, I guess that means you'd buy the EVO. That's the beauty of MOTOR articles - they tell you honestly how the cars perform, feel, etc, and tell you WHY they picked the winner they did. In this case the Clubby nosed ahead 'coz they thought most people would MUCH rather hop into it to drive to work everyday, except those people who live at the top of a hillclimb or tarmac rally stage.
And yeah, I agree they do pander to the local manufacturers a little too much, especially with cover-space. Trouble is though, that's where the market share is (like you said) and that's where all the industry P.R. is coming from in Australia. That's why I get EVO Magazine from Britain, coz they drive justabout everything in europe that's fast, and EVERY FREAKIN SUPERCAR YOU CAN NAME ! ! !
YEAH BABY !
p.s. I also d/load episodes of Top Gear from teh 'net, same reason as EVO - but the pictures move, and there's SOUND!
