Data Projector Help!

Hi guys,
I just got a data projector things today and I was just using it for the 1st time and it was working well and everything went fine except when I wanted to play a video through my computer. No matter what player I used (Media Player, Power DVD, Quicktime etc) they all played fine on the laptop but on the projecor nothing came up. The outline of the player was there but the actual video wasn't.
I am also a teacher and had used the school one before this and it played fine one time I used it to watch a DVD but the 2nd time did the same things as this one is now doing.
Is there a setting that might need adjusting? I don't know a huge amount about computers but this does seem to be simple but just not working.
I'd appreciate some help...Steve

its copy protection. doesnt ususally happen on the vga out, usually on the video out.
there are several drivers that will do really cool stuff, depending on your video card.
the easiest work around is to set the the display device which you want the video to display on as the primary display. - thats if you cant find better drivers.

beterthenu is spot on.
the dvd's have a copy protection system on them that trys to prevent you from outputting them to a ana, ogue output (ie the svideo output) this is to prevent you from copying them onto a recording device say VHS tape. fairly acedemic now since dvd writers are so cheap however when it was first released it was justifed.
what video card do you have ? is it an nvidia family card or ATI family card ? the nvidia has heaps better driver support to do this imo. what you need to do is to either set your secondard VGA (which i assume is what your using to output to the projector) as a primary display, this is done though the nvidia ontrol panel. (goto NView then right click on the second display and select it as primary) this *should* fix it. if not there is another option in there somewhere but i cant for the life of me remember im infront of an intel video machine atm so i cant check. but the setting is something like "video overlay device" and you can select the video overlay be displayed to the primary or secondary display. if this still dosent work i suggest getting it to disable your normal screen and have jsut the projector active this should sort it out no grief. if you are using a laptop with the nvidia geforce2go video then this may be your only option as you dont really have as much flexibility in the drivers as they provide in the desktop video card drivers.

Because its using multiple displays (or it thinks it is) the image is only coming out on the first display (monitor im guessing). This is the problem with overlay, vmr9 will display the image on every display. Easiest way of using this is to download mediaplayer classic and set it to use VMR9.

Thanks everyone...I'll have a go at that later on today and see how it works.
Now i'm thinking about it....the video that did work at school I was using the schools computer...the time it didn't work I was using my own. Must be it then.
It is brand new but isn't the most expensive
Cheers

Tis a common problem. If you start playing a video on your computer, then change the output to the VGA out you only get the black shape where the video should be, not the movie.
Change the video output to the data projector before you start playing the movie, then it should be OK.
That overlay thing will also help, but changing the output before you start the movie will get you out of trouble in the interim.

It's the overlay. It'll only work on one display at a time. You can get around the issue by using either VMR7 or VMR9, both of them should be available on newer versions of media player, although VMR9 will require DirectX 9.

Well thanks guys for the replies and I have to say all that above sounded like jibberish but I ended up downloading the Media Player Classic and was able to find the settings and changed them to VMR9 and it works great.
I would rather use the Media Player 9 on my computer already but couldn't find how to change the settings on that.
Can you change them?

Found it in windows media player 10 so it *might* work for you in wmp9.
Tools->Options->Performace->Advanced
Under Video Acceleration tick "Use high quality mode".
