Has anyone had experience in modifying 3-piece rims?

I have some simmons b45 15" wheels - 8" 4x114.3 . The offset is around 24mm I think.
Well anyway, I would like them to fit on my sprinter, but Im pretty sure they will hit the shocks on the front.
Has anyone had much experience changing parts on 3 piece rims? I'm thinking of changing a pair to to 7" and using them on the front. Is this a really bad idea? I could probably order all new centre pieces for them but it would probably be cheaper to pass these on to someone else and get wheels that actually fit my car.
I roughly measured the rims to be 30mm closer to the shocks (well touching them probably) than the standard mags.

The standard sprinter hub to strut depth is about 110mm from memory . So you could take a measurement from the wheel hub facing or try it on the car , or sell them off , but other centers {not cheap} or convert the front suspension to another strut type ie :s13 140mm facing {lots of room}.
Another item is the 8" rim if a spacer used will need guard modification {simple trick there}, or another offset strut so you don't have to use hard to find offset rims .
Looks like that car isn't going to be stock for long

I just need to sell my lancer off so I can get serious about mods, had some spare time today so I checked out some wreckers and found a 80s 929 with these wheels on them. I couldn't find a damned thing about these cars on the net (should have pm'd nick2b).
s13 strut conversion eh? I will be spending money in that area so I might consider.
