after a little while at idle, white smoke starts to pour out of the exhaust.
sometimes it goes away.
it doesnt smoke straight away at startup.
it turned up with good comp, a pressure test on the cooling system was fine. but the t-kay head check turned up CO in the cooling system. so i changed the head gasket.
only things i can think of are cracked head/block or the turbo has shat itself.
i just dont understand why it only happens after a while at idle and not all the time.
anybody got any suggestions?

Have you checked the intercooler piping for any oil ?
If there oil there the turbo has gone , what turbo is it ? The Oil Drain from the turbo might be blocked , don't blow though the turbo with compressed air it will blow the seals .
And why did the headgasket go ? thats not normal unless its been cooked big time . It a nissan nothing should ever go wrong

there is oil in the piping, so i know that the turbo is shit. but why would it happen at idle. it does blow smoke when you back off the throttle, but i didnt know if that was associated with the idle smoke.
the headgasket went cos someone forgot to switch the thermo on lol, ive wired that up with a relay now so no more worries.
its a t28.
ill have a look at the oil drain.
funny thing is. i started it then and there was no idle smoke, only off throttle.
this is confusing.

Have you checked the the catcher / breather isn't blocked with shit from the blown headgasket , try cleaning it out . Is the breather system , and charcoal canister to throttle body connected correctly ? and what happens when the oil cap is taken off the engine while running ?
Shit that must have got hot , did you do a head softness test ?

catcher/breather? you mean for the crankcase ventilation?
the charcol canister has been removed as have the pcv hoses etc.
funny thing is i couldnt really see any breakages/cracks in the old headgasket. i took the head to the shop and the guys did a vacuum test and a pressure test (what ever that is) and said that the head was fine. i am bamboozled.
